Welcome to the Elk County BoulderDash, the greatest trail event ever. The 2017 trail run is slated for August 5th (pending permit approval from PA Game Commission). BoulderDash is a 20-mile trail run/hike through State Game Lands 44, just south of Ridgway, Pennsylvania. For your hard-core trail runners, there is about 4,000+ feet of vertical rise over the course. For the rest of you, that means th
at a lot of it is straight up hill and straight back down. If you still can’t envision it, trust me: It’s ridiculous. The event is divided into sections called loops. Each loop is identified by the name of the Rock or of the Location nearest to which you are traveling.
• Grandfather Rocks Loop
• Umbrella Rock Loop
• Island Run Loop
• Devils Den Loop
• Miles Rocks Loop
Grandfather Rocks Loop:
The starting loop taking you out of town and into State Game Lands will have participants traveling a distance of 2.6 miles with an elevation gain of 812 feet. The maximum grade is 37.2%. This loop passes the rock formation known as “Grandfather Rocks"
Umbrella Rock Loop:
The second loop leads deep into the forest and travels a distance of 3.63 miles with an elevation gain of 698 feet with a maximum grade of 40.7%. This loop will have participants experiencing the AWESOME Umbrella Rock formation. The end of the loop heads down Rattlesnake hill into Island Run. Island Run Loop:
This third loop does not contain any named rock formations, but after the long trek to the top which is the highest point of the course, participants will enjoy an easy downhill run back to the entrance of Island Run. This may be the most beautiful part of the entire course because of the view of the forest. This loop travels 4.9 miles with an elevation gain of 901 feet with a maximum grade of 21.7%. Coming down hill participants can enjoy random boulders and rock formations off to the left. Devil's Den Loop:
This forth loop begins at the entrance to Island Run. Entering at the base and climbing to the top of Devil’s Den, this loop takes participants deep into the forest traveling a distance of 4.2 miles with an elevation gain of 940 feet. The view from the top provides a beautiful, panoramic view of the state game lands. The maximum grade is 32.2%. Miles Rocks Loop:
This final loop connects the Devils Den Loop to the finish line. Here you will have a spectacularview of Miles Rocks. During this loop you will travel a distance of 4.1 miles with an elevation gain of 868 feet and your maximum grade will be 30.7%. The total elevation gain for this run is a whopping 4219 feet, with a maximum slope of 40.7%.
