The Story of the Speakeasy OWL:
The OWL is a symbol of secrecy, wisdom, and the clever ingenuity of the Prohibition era. Inspired by the legendary plaster owls, Sherry Belle and John Eager Howard, these iconic figures once perched atop cash registers in a historic speakeasy. With glowing glass eyes, they signaled patrons when it was safe to order illicit drinks—blinking for “all clear” and glowing steadily to warn of nearby authorities.
Today, Richmond Speakeasy carries on that legacy, blending history, community, and entertainment into one unforgettable experience.
