We would like to extend a long-overdue recognition to Deputy Director Claire Yarbrough, whose multifaceted role includes serving as our exceptional event coordinator. Notably, Claire successfully led our 16th annual Lifting the Silence fundraiser, which became our highest-grossing event. Claire's oversight encompasses all aspects of Lifting the Silence and we want to recognize her contributions for the amazing night. Hats off to Claire!!!

At Lifting the Silence earlier this month, we presented Karen Grazionale with our 2026 Champions Award, presented annually to recognize an individual who is a Champion for brain injury and has made a significant and lasting impact to CBIS and the brain injury community. Karen is an incredibly deserving recipient of this award, making an impact on other caregivers, survivors, and professionals alike.
Fellow caregivers said these things about Karen:
"At a time when we needed guidance most, Karen showed up with knowledge, compassion, and the kind of honesty that only comes from lived experience as a caregiver. She met us where we were and helped move us forward."
"Karen is the leader, listener and guider, always saying the right thing with thoughtful words. There are meetings when we all need a tissue to get though our feelings, and our laughter. She keeps the meetings moving, always ending on a great note and this leaves us ready to start again in care giving for our loved ones."
From professionals in the brain injury community:
"Karen demonstrates an unwavering commitment to listening to and amplifying the voices of survivors and caregivers, and her collaborative approach and thoughtful insights are instrumental in shaping both process and outcomes. Without a doubt, Karen’s stalwart efforts have left and will continue to leave a lasting imprint on how inquiry into needs, gaps, and possibilities inform how we shape systems of care across the Commonwealth."
Thank you for all you do Karen!
