Frostfest 2022 News

Attention all Amateur radio operators, vendors, and general public:

FrostFest 2022 has been cancelled due to uncertainty about COVID restrictions that existed in August 2021, the time at which the go/no go decision had to be made.

FrostFest 2023 is very likely to happen, but the plans for it are TBD.

Check back on this page or frostfest.com mid-2022 for announcements regarding FrostFest 2023.

Friends of Frostfest,

The organization that sponsors Frostfest – the Richmond Amateur Telecommunications Society (RATS, Inc.) – along with the Frostfest Committee, have made the difficult decision to cancel Frostfest for February 2021. We have looked at all concerns in front of us, and the most important one is the health and welfare of our vendors, patrons, volunteers, and staff. We could not in good conscience go forth with so many uncertainties in the months ahead.

Please be assured that we very much look forward to seeing everyone again in 2022! We will be using the same location at the Richmond Raceway Complex, and look forward to providing you all with the same quality of hamfest experience that you have come to expect from Frostfest.

It's a bit more than 200 days away from Frosfest 2021.
The world has changed quite a bit since February 1st 2020! Every major hamfest after Hamcation has been cancelled due to Covid-19.

We're disappointed that we weren't able to go and visit our friends at Winterfest in Annandale,Va or down in Raleigh, NC for RARSfest, and that we're going to miss out on the fun in Roanoke and the food and tailgating in Berryville, Va this August.

We know that friends of Frostfest like Quicksilver Radio Products, Ham World Inc. and other show regulars certainly miss seeing many of you at the different shows on the hamfest circuit.

As much as we want to draw a line in the sand and say "FROSTFEST 2021 is ON", we know that its bit early and too optimistic to say that, at this point.

We are keeping a close eye on what's happening here in Virginia and in nearby states, and we're working on what Frostfest 2021 would look like with different restrictions in place.

We'll continue to use this space and our email list to keep you all up to date as to where things stand.

In the meantime, stay safe. Please continue following your local Covid safety guidelines and let's hope for more positive signs of beating this thing are on the horizon for all of us.

All of us at Frostfest would like to say THANKS to everyone (vendors, volunteers, attendees) who came out on Saturday for the show. We hope all of you enjoyed it and we look forward to seeing you all again in 2021.

Saturday February 1st is almost here! A couple of quick notes:

We have an addition to the forums. Mark Bailey KD4D and
Ken Low KE3X of the Potomac Valley Radio Club will be discussing their experiences in participating in the 2018 World Radiosport Team Championships.

The Frostfest Committee will be busy with show set up starting Friday 1/31. We will check in on this page and our email, but most of the general information (talk in freq, directions, hours etc) can be found on our FAQ here: http://frostfest.com/wp/?page_id=51

Doors for Frostpass ticket holders open at 8AM and general admission starts at 8:30AM on February 1st.

We're very excited to announce that we are scheduled to have two special forum speakers joining us via Skype this year.

At 11AM, we'll have Rich Moseson W2VU who is the Editorial Director of CQ Magazine (CQ Amateur Radio Magazine)

At 12PM Dr. Tamitha Skov (Space Weather Woman) will be joining us. Dr. Skov has been a featured presenter at Contest University at Dayton, and her Solar Reports are regularly featured on HamNation.

Come to Frostfest and hear first hand from one of the staff at CQ Magazine, and learn about the impact of space weather on amateur radio!
