Richmond 2015

Richmond 2015 Organizers of the 2015 UCI Road World Championships World Champions are crowned in each discipline.

The World Road Cycling Championships is cycling’s pinnacle event, held annually in an international city as chosen by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) through a bid process, similar to the Olympic Games. The UCI World Road Cycling Championships is a nine-day event, featuring 12 World Championship Races for Elite Men and Women, Under 23 Men and Junior Men and Women. It is a rare opportunity

for the athletes to compete for their country, just as they do during the Olympic Games. Athletes compete in three different disciplines including the traditional Road Race, the Individual Time Trial and the recently introduced Team Time Trial.

Please share your fondest memories and pictures of Richmond 2015 throughout the week as we celebrate the success of the event and what it has meant for Richmond and Virginia.

"We dreamed big, and that the Richmond community — businesses, universities, churches, schools, and of course, our residents — enabled that dream to come true, we are thankful.
The cowbells and throngs of Richmonders and our guests packing Libby Hill and lining 23rd Street will stay with us for years.
We know the impact of welcoming the world will do the same."

"Worlds were a resounding success. Visitors and athletes raved about how well organized the nine-day championships were, how friendly Richmonders are, and how neat RVA is... For improving quality of life in the city and region; for introducing to the Richmond vernacular the word ‘peloton’; and for persuading us, even if for only one weekend, that spandex is the coolest thing since Hardywood’s Gingerbread Stout, we name cycling our inaugural Richmonder of the Year."

More than 645,000 spectators turned up to see about 1,000 athletes representing their respective countries at the UCI Road World Championships last month in Richmond. The race is as big as the Tour de France, and as an amateur cyclist, I was psyched to witness the first UCI in the United States in a…
