What an incredible weekend in Maine! We were invited behind the fence to bring stories of hope to residents of Maine State Prison then we went into the communities throughout Midcoast Maine sharing the voices and talents of incarceration survivors. Along the way we heard stories of transformation, overcoming, and hope. We connected with folks on both sides of the fence and laid the groundwork to strengthen the community of incarceration survivors and allies.
Thank you to for presenting this festival. Thank you to our hosts at , and .waldoboro.inn for hosting our community events.
Thank you to Society Impact and for ensuring we had local incarceration survivors featured in our program.
Thank you to Sara Eastler for reading poems from men currently incarcerated.
And thank you to everyone in Maine who came out to be challenged, inspired, and moved to action to create thriving communities for incarceration survivors!

We'll post more about our incredible time in Maine soon but tonight we'll share this post from a wonderful legislator in Maine working to build relationships and change policies who joined us at MSP on Friday.

While many of my colleagues and friends spent the last 2 days at the Democratic State Convention, I decided to spend much of my day yesterday where I spend most of my Fridays, at the Maine State Prison in Warren.

Yesterday was a special day at MSP! The Inthrive Film Festival came to the prison and it was an amazing experience. Many residents of the facility, as well as several community members and friends came together to view 8 short films and to have lunch. The films were honestly breathtaking, showing both the harm of incarceration from various perspectives and also the resilience and love that is built within the walls of prisons across the country.

We all laughed and cried throughout the day. It was so moving. I can't stop thinking about it.

I try to go to MSP once a week and spend time with our incarcerated community members. I am not permitted to bring a phone inside the prison and therefore have almost no photos to share of my time in the prison. But the organizers of the festival were able to send this snapshot from yesterday, so I figured I would share it here.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend!

It's almost time for our first ever inside/outside event! We'll be in Maine's Midcoast on May 1 & 2 with events inside the Maine State Prison and in the community! Yes, DOC residents will welcome the public into the Maine State Prison and the community welcomes DOC residents into the communities of Damariscotta and Waldoboro!

When we create ways to build community through proximity then incarceration survivors can change the narrative!
