We'll post more about our incredible time in Maine soon but tonight we'll share this post from a wonderful legislator in Maine working to build relationships and change policies who joined us at MSP on Friday.
While many of my colleagues and friends spent the last 2 days at the Democratic State Convention, I decided to spend much of my day yesterday where I spend most of my Fridays, at the Maine State Prison in Warren.
Yesterday was a special day at MSP! The Inthrive Film Festival came to the prison and it was an amazing experience. Many residents of the facility, as well as several community members and friends came together to view 8 short films and to have lunch. The films were honestly breathtaking, showing both the harm of incarceration from various perspectives and also the resilience and love that is built within the walls of prisons across the country.
We all laughed and cried throughout the day. It was so moving. I can't stop thinking about it.
I try to go to MSP once a week and spend time with our incarcerated community members. I am not permitted to bring a phone inside the prison and therefore have almost no photos to share of my time in the prison. But the organizers of the festival were able to send this snapshot from yesterday, so I figured I would share it here.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend!
