Our Story
The Great Ogeechee Seafood Festival was created by the local Chamber of Commerce and, with Charlie Stafford at the helm, had its debut at the Kilkenny Fisherman’s Co-op in 1985.
The original intent ... to raise money for local non-profit organizations.
For four years, the event grew and grew, bringing people from all across the southeast to Richmond Hill for a full-filled weekend of delicious seafood and entertainment to benefit the community’s local non-profit organizations. The event eventually fizzled when the facility (Fisherman’s Co-op) could no longer accommodate the ever-expanding crowd.
Fast forward to 1998 when then Mayor Richard Davis approached the RHBC Chamber of Commerce about resurrecting the Seafood Festival. That year about 8,500 people attended the weekend-long event at J.F. Gregory Park, the Festival’s new and current location.
