Update: April Fools 🎉
🌊 THIS SUMMER! The Legendary Marine World Africa USA Water Ski Show returns for a Victory Lap 🌊
For one afternoon only, before our Sounds of the Shores concert, we’re bringing back a beloved piece of Redwood City’s waterfront history: the iconic Marine World Africa USA Water Ski Show, just like crowds remembered it in the 1970s and early ’80s!
From high-speed pyramids on water skis to coordinated boat formations across the lagoon, this special event celebrates one of the park’s most talked-about attractions from its original run (1968–1985).
⛱️ What to expect:
🌊 High-speed ski routines and boat formations
🚤 Animal-themed segments, the legendary elephant gets an honorary mention. (Note: We are socially conscious and will not feature any actual live exotic performers.)
🎶 A peak-era soundtrack to match (Go-Go's "Vacation," anyone?)
🗣️ “Back then, you didn’t think twice... you just got up and went,” said former skier Mark Delaney, who was 25 in 1985 and still stretches before trying anything athletic. “Now? I stretch first. A lot. The goal is to stay upright and walk away from it.”
📍 Where: Redwood Shores Lagoon
🕒 When: Showtime prior to the concert
Come relive a piece of local legend or discover it for the first time. Either way, don’t miss this unlikely splash back into history! 😉
