What began in Chicago, IL in the late 90’s, has now turned into a beautiful sharing of Americana Roots music throughout the center of America. It all began at The Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago, Illinois. Every year, the Old Town School organized the Chicago Folk & Roots Festival that consisted of culture, art, families, and community, as well as a weekend of highlighting local and national talent.

Upon moving back to Nebraska in 2012, Mike Semrad, a former teacher of music at the Old Town School, initiated the idea of bringing the Festival to Nebraska and calling it the “Nebraska Folk & Roots Festival”. The idea was thought up one night surrounded by friends wanting to commemorate the history of Nebraska music. With the roots music scene thriving and growing around this area, there was no better place to do the festival than Nebraska. What a cool idea it would be to bring together the old guild and the new, and share a weekend together. There has been an incredible roots sound in Nebraska for many years, and we wanted to bring this to light. Artists such as The Bluegrass Crusade, Home Cookin’, The Toasted Ponies, Dr. John Walker, all of Prairie Dog Music artists and more.
