We're back this Labor Day weekend, Sept. 5 - 6, celebrating the 17th Annual African American Cultural Festival with the theme, "Rooted in Community; Anchored in Legacy." We are confirming our line-up of entertainers for the Main Stage and Family Village Stage, as well as our small business entrepreneurs (vendors) for food, clothing, art and more, with a few new activities. We'll release more details in coming weeks. Make plans now to attend with your family and friends, and meet us on Fayetteville Street in Downtown Raleigh.

In celebration of Women’s History Month, the African American Cultural Festival of Raleigh and Wake County is proud to SPOTLIGHT our very own, Donna-maria “Dia” Harris!

Deeply committed to cultural celebration and community service, Dia has served on the Governing Board of the African American Cultural Festival of Raleigh and Wake County since 2020 and currently serves as Vice Chair, helping to uplift and celebrate African American heritage and community pride. This community event is the largest Labor Day festival on the East Coast with upwards of 50,000+ attendees yearly.

Dia is an accomplished communication leader, community advocate, and champion for cultural engagement with more than 25 years of experience connecting communities through strategic storytelling and public service. As Public Affairs Director for the North Carolina Department of Revenue, she leads innovative communication efforts that educate and strengthen transparency and public trust across the state.

Dia’s career spans impactful roles in broadcast, with the City of Raleigh Police Department, and the City of Raleigh Office of Sustainability, where she advanced initiatives that promoted public safety, environmental awareness, and meaningful community dialogue. A dedicated leader in youth empowerment, she is the Founder and former Board Chair (2004–2018) of TeenFest Foundation, a nonprofit that developed young leaders through arts and focused on violence reduction and drug prevention programming.

An award-winning communicator, educator, and mentor, Dia continues to inspire through her leadership, service, and dedication to empowering voices—making her a powerful example of impact in honor of Women’s History Month.
