Jerry Clifton Named 2025 "Friend of Fort Payne" Award Recipient

The Fort Payne Chamber of Commerce is delighted to announce Jerry Clifton as the recipient of the 2024 "Friend of Fort Payne" award. This prestigious honor celebrates Jerry’s outstanding dedication and contributions, which have greatly enriched our community and strengthened the spirit of Fort Payne.

As a lifelong resident of DeKalb County, Jerry is known to many as a dynamic presence around town—whether it’s his impressive streak of running every day for nearly five years, his community “recovery meals,” or his engaging live Facebook updates. However, his impact goes far beyond his visible activities.

Jerry has played an instrumental role in promoting and revitalizing Fort Payne, especially our downtown area. His efforts in beautification, improvement, and business development have been transformational. Thanks to his vision and contributions, several small businesses—such as Cotton State Boutique, Valley Nutrition, Alice Circle, The Bakehouse Downtown, Blissfully Serene Spa & Salon, Rib Shak, and Urban Serenity Clothing Co.—have become part of our thriving community, with more on the way!

Jerry's commitment to a vibrant downtown includes thoughtful touches like year-round lights adorning First Street and the creation of historical lodging spaces such as the Lofts on Gault. His labor of love in the restoration of the Leath House stands as another testament to his dedication to preserving Fort Payne's charm.

One of Jerry’s most impactful contributions is the Rainsville Freedom Run, which he founded and directs. Now in its 17th year, the race has welcomed participants from around the world and raised over $550,000 for local charities, including Marked for Life, The Summit, The Father’s House, and Friends of DeKalb County Animal Shelter. Scheduled for June 7th at the DeKalb County Schools Coliseum, this event continues to exemplify Jerry’s passion for fostering unity and giving back to the community.

Jerry’s vision for Fort Payne is clear: a thriving downtown filled with welcoming spaces, diverse arts and entertainment, and family-friendly activities. His unwavering commitment has made a lasting difference in the lives of countless residents.

Please join us in celebrating Jerry Clifton for his exceptional leadership, generosity, and tireless efforts to make Fort Payne a better place. Thank you, Jerry, for being a friend to so many, and a true Friend of Fort Payne!

Come celebrate Jerry and our other recipients as he is honored during the 2025 Awards Banquet on January 28th, tickets can be purchased at: https://fortpaynechamber.com/events/ #!event/2025/1/28/2025-awards-banquet
