UPDATE ON DONATIONS: Ok, not unexpectedly, we've had a ton of turnout for donations to take down to TN/NC/SC. So first off - THANK YOU. I'm still blown away by people's generosity.
We managed to move everything to our shop this afternoon - and we're now sitting on about 14-16 pallets. After talking with some of my contacts in the mountains, we're going to pivot a little...
The first wave of supplies is being distributed out, but they need some time to do that and want to direct manpower at it for a day or so. Then they want backfill and thus our timing is perfect. We're looking to send our truck (well trucks plural now) on Wednesday. Prior to sending, we're going to vac-pak all the clothing/blankets, sort, and kit up the supplies and other items. As such, we'll still be receiving MONDAY AND TUESDAY at the office - Cadence, Inc. - 1 Messner Drive, Wheeling, IL 60090.
VOLUNTEERS:
- Pack and organize items - 2pm - 6pm tomorrow Monday, all day Tuesday
THINGS TO DONATE:
- Food - people, babies, pets
- Water - distilled for formula and medical
- Blankets
- Work gloves
- Charcoal
- Scraper/scooper shovels
- Hoes
- Electrolyte packets for water bottles
- Flashlights / Headlamps
- Batteries
- Contractor cleanup bags
- *** Kids drawings and notes of encouragement***
- Duct tape
- Clothing (new or really nice used - please don't send me your laundry - ;)
- Shoes / Boots
- Diapers
- Wipes
- Underwear/socks
- Chain saw + supplies (but I can't send fuel, so bar oil, premix oil, etc)
- Chainsaw files 733 / 532
- Portable propane and gas grills - like small ones that you can toss in a trunk
This will allow us to come in organized and targeted. I'm learning a lot, so thanks for the patience... The first wave is typically SAR, survival. This next wave will be a mix of that plus cleanup and digging out. We'll be in that second wave.
