Pilots Peter Cuneo, Bert Padelt, and Alicia Hempleman-Adams are attempting a historic flight crossing the Atlantic in an open basket hydrogen gas balloon. Good luck, gentle breezes, and soft landings to the entire Atlantic Explorer 2026 Flight Control team as they approach open waters!

You can follow their progress at atlantic-explorer.com/

The Atlantic Explorer is currently passing south east of Sydney on the east coast of Cape Breton Island at a speed of 25knts.

After consultation with the flight crew and project meteorologists the Atlantic Explorer will continue its path onto the ocean this evening..

In the meantime, here is a spectacular photo of the Atlantic Explorer departing the launchsite at Presque Isle. A massive thanks to Paul Cyr Photography!

More soon!

One of our most anticipated announcements of the year is our Pilot of the Year Award. The selection process changed slightly this year which delayed things a bit. You know what they say though... good things come to those who wait and we are thrilled to announce our 2025 Pilot of the Year is...
Marian Deeney!

Marian has been a pilot at Crown of Maine Balloon Fest for well over a decade and is always a welcome face to our committee and community alike. From participating in community outreach, keeping passenger experience front of mind, to developing lasting relationships with our local crew...Marian ticked off all the boxes and then some!

Please help us congratulate Marian on this well earned recognition! Hemisphere Dancer will be featured in our 2026 festival merchandise, so be sure to save the date for August 28-30,2026 to congratulate Marian in person and to get festival gear to commemorate the occasion!

We want to thank everyone who made our Rotary Basket Raffle a success this past weekend at the Crown of Maine Balloon Fest! We are so grateful for the incredible local businesses and organizations who donated amazing items, for our tremendous volunteers who gave of their time and energy, and, of course, for the great folks from near and far who bought tickets for a chance to win while supporting some worthy local causes.

We were thrilled to make over $10,000 to support our three proceed partners as well as other causes and activities that our Rotary Club supports during the year. Look for more on how our raffle did soon, but meanwhile we wanted to get out a list of winners, since several people have been asking for it.

Congratulations to each of these winners - we hope you enjoy your prizes! And please accept our apologies if we spelled your name incorrectly.

A message from Event Chair, Jordyn Madore:

We have so many thank yous to give out for this year's festival. Dozens of community partners helped us pull off a fabulous event, and we will get there....But first:

I'm going to ask everyone to please help me thank this extraordinary group of people: our volunteer committee. These are the faces that work year round to bring this festival to Presque Isle for no other reason except they want to.

Over the past several years, I have watched this committee as it evolved and became a true powerhouse team; they donate their time and expertise, overcoming obstacles (some in our control but others not), to bring magic to our region. And they've done a heck of a job this year. 2 successful flights before Erin shut down our field, tethered rides, a balloon glow and candle glow are just the tip of the iceberg. They also managed a full food court, nearly 100 crafters and vendors, 2 days of free children's activities, added a new music festival, organized local school visits for pilots, and collaborated with over half a dozen community organizations to host events. They changed (probably) hundreds of trash cans, assembled/disassembled hundreds of feet of fencing, mopped floors, washed tables, flipped pancakes, answered thousands of questions...and did it generally with smiles on their faces, despite their mental and physical fatigue. Because they wanted to. Because they feel it is important to do something for the community they love. This group is the definition of what it means to be civically engaged and to give back to the place we call home.

I was weepy Sunday night during our closing toast and I'm definitely "not" weepy now as I type this but THANK YOU Nate, Aaron, Chelsea, Charlie, Melissa, Jess, Nick, Jake, Pam, Amy, Derik, Floyd, Eric, Margo, Geoff, Ryan, Jen, LaNiece, and Sam. I am so proud of us and what we were able to do this year. There is no other group of people I'd rather be overtired with in 2026 than all of you ❤️
-Mother Hen signing off (for now)
