Let’s show our local kids and families an eruption of love this Halloween and donate for a good cause. Envision Glassford Hills as Magic Mountain — brought to life by your kind and generous donations — spewing joy, laughter, and happiness for our kiddos all Halloween season.

Halloween at the Market happens on October 18th, 2026, and we’re preparing to treat 3,500–5,000 local families with a few hours full of magic, memories, and mountains of candy.

To make Magic Mountain erupt, we’re collecting candy and small toy donations all month long.

⭐ Dusty Meadows Broadcast Series — Chapter 2 of 6
Why Big Farms Need Big Water
Folks… Dusty Meadows back at it.

Yesterday we talked about where I come from — a desert that looks like Prescott Valley but behaves nothing like it. Today we’re getting into the heart of the matter:

Why big farms can’t exist without big water.

This is the part most Prescott Valley transplants have never seen, because the places we moved from — Washington, Oregon, California, the Midwest, the South — all have something PV doesn’t:

Reliable, replenishing water sources.

Rain.
Rivers.
Snowpack.
Aquifers that refill.
Water tables that rise and fall with the seasons instead of dropping year after year.

Where most of us came from, water is a renewable cycle.
Here? It’s a finite resource.

Let’s break it down.

⭐ Big Farms Need Shallow, Moving Water
Large‑scale agriculture — the kind that fills grocery stores — depends on water that is:

Shallow (easy to access)

Moving (constantly refreshed)

Predictable (you know it’ll be there next season)

Abundant (enough to irrigate hundreds or thousands of acres)

That’s why big farms cluster around rivers and canals.
Not because farmers “like the view,” but because water is the entire system.

You can have perfect soil, perfect sun, perfect land…
but without water, you don’t have a farm — you have a dream.

⭐ High‑Desert Land Doesn’t Behave Like River Land
Here’s the truth most folks don’t know:

High‑desert aquifers don’t refill fast enough to support big agriculture.

They’re deep.
They’re slow.
They’re fragile.
And once they drop, they don’t bounce back.

That’s why Prescott Valley can’t copy the farming systems from the places we came from.
It’s not politics.
It’s not lack of effort.
It’s not “someone blocking progress.”

It’s hydrology.
It’s geology.
It’s the land itself.

⭐ A Big Farm Drinks Like a Small City
Let me put it in Dusty terms:

A 100‑acre farm drinks like a neighborhood.
A 500‑acre farm drinks like a town.
A 1,000‑acre farm drinks like a small city.

And that’s every day during the growing season.

You can’t pull that kind of water from a high‑desert aquifer without draining it dry — and once it’s dry, it’s gone for generations.

That’s why big farms don’t exist here.
Not because people don’t want them…
but because the land can’t sustain them.

⭐ This Isn’t About What We Want — It’s About What the Land Allows
Prescott Valley is full of good people with good intentions.
Transplants who came from greener places and imagine farming the way it worked back home.

But this land plays by different rules.

And if we want to build a sustainable future here, we have to understand those rules — not fight them.

Tomorrow, in Chapter Three, we’ll talk about what is possible on this land… and what smart, sustainable agriculture actually looks like in a high‑desert town.

Dusty Meadows, signing off until then.
