TODAY! The Reed Music Department is pleased to host a lecture-recital presented by local professional vocal ensemble In Mulieribus, featuring two of our private voice instructors, Sarah Beaty and Madeline Ross in PAB 320 from 12:10-1:10pm. Admission is free.

In Mulieribus, a Portland-based women’s chamber vocal ensemble, offers a lecture-recital titled “Sappho: Whispers of Desire" that centers on the enduring legacy of Sappho, the extraordinarily prolific and influential poet of ancient Greece. Though her lyric poetry revolutionized the genre, Sappho’s voice has been historically marginalized. This project aims to help restore a misunderstood and eclipsed figure to her rightful place in cultural history through the performance of musical settings of Sappho’s poetry, spanning composers from Brahms to contemporary voices.

Renowned classics scholar Dr. Ellen Greene, author of the first anthology of Sappho scholarship whose research examines diverse critical approaches to her poetry, will offer insights into the curated repertoire and provide contextual understanding of Sappho’s life and work.

Reed Theatre presents a favorite of the q***r canon: William Shakespeare's masterpiece about love, gender, and freedom, "As You Like It," the first Reed Theatre Shakespeare production since 2014. You will not want to miss this special event directed by Rusty Tennant.

Follow Rosalind, one of Shakespeare's most profound orators, as she teaches Orlando the true meaning of love, all while inhabiting one of the most complex breeches roles ever written. Revel in the hilarious antics of a huge cast of characters that unites Reed students from across the college on our mainstage. Enjoy the poetry that has endured for over 400 years as it is brought to life by our community's collective and q***red lens. It is a show that truly promises to be "As You Like It."
