This Saturday, please join and Art’s family as we gather to honor a legend. Art Larrance, the cofounder of the Oregon Brewers Festival in 1988, was a cornerstone of the Portland community. And what better way to celebrate him than at the Celebration of OBF happening at The Portland Rose Festival’s CityFair this weekend?

📆 When: This Saturday, June 1st @ 3pm

📍 Where: Portland Rose Festival, OBF Pop-Up (South end of the park, near Salmon Springs Fountain) all ages welcome.

Come for drinks, laughter, stories, and hugs as we celebrate Art’s incredible legacy. A larger celebration is planned for later this year, but for now, let’s raise a glass to the man who meant so much to so many.

No RSVP needed—just buy your CityFair tickets, bring yourself and your best stories. Let’s make it a day to remember! See you there!

We are heartbroken today as we share this news: Art Larrance, co-founder of the Oregon Brewers Festival and one of the most influential people behind Oregon’s craft beer movement, passed away this morning at the age of 80.

Art dedicated his life to elevating craft beer in Oregon, co-founding Portland Brewing Company and Cascade Brewing, and helping to pass Oregon’s brewpub law. His legacy lives on in every brewpub, and every bottle and can and pint of Oregon beer.

As Art loved to say, “With beer brings friendship.” So gather your friends and raise a pint to Art with us as we honor his legacy and remember with love the friend, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who we dearly miss.

Dear Friends of the Oregon Brewers Festival,

After thoughtful and thorough consideration, the Oregon Brewers Festival team has decided to cancel the July 2023 event.

We’re disappointed to share this news, but we know that it’s the right thing to do. After three decades of producing OBF, we’ve developed a solid understanding of what it takes to give our attendees a great festival. And it’s clear when those factors aren’t coming together for a successful event. Higher costs, lower attendance, and extreme weather are just a few of the challenges that we’ve been discussing—but that’s far from an exhaustive list.

Great beer, however, has never been an issue. We couldn’t be prouder or more appreciative of the brewers who have come together in support of the festival year after year, and there have been some truly fantastic brews that have made their debut at OBF over the past 33 years.

We’ve enjoyed some incredible high points, meeting travelers from all over the world, welcoming 80,000 attendees one summer, and being named one of the world’s top 10 beer festivals, right alongside the Munich Oktoberfest. So now we’re hitting pause and figuring out how and when we’ll come back to offer the world-class beer festival experience that our attendees and brewers deserve.

We also recognize that the hospitality industry, which is at the core of our festival, is still working to recover from the effects of the pandemic. From local breweries to the suppliers of our festival infrastructure, many folks are just working to keep their doors open and their employees paid.

OBF will return when the time is right. As we go forward, we’ll be considering creative ways to support our local breweries and cideries through smaller festivals and partnerships. And we encourage you to do the same, by visiting your favorite watering hole, ordering takeout or delivery, leaving reviews for your favorites, buying gift cards, and following them on social media for the latest news on how to help. Let’s make sure there are plenty of thriving breweries ready to join us at OBF when we return.

We want to express our gratitude to the brewers, cider makers, volunteers, staff members and vendors who have been vital to OBF over the years; to our friends at Portland Parks & Recreation, who have been essential to the fest’s ongoing success at Waterfront Park; and to our attendees—from the ones who never missed a year to those who braved the heatwave in 2022 to join us for the first time—we can’t wait to see you again.

Cheers,
Art Larrance, Teddy Peetz, Alissa Larrance, & the OBF Team

THANK YOU! The taps are closed, and the 33rd Oregon Brewers Festival is officially complete. We are so glad we could come back after two years away. We couldn't have done this without an army of volunteers, extremely talented brewers and cidermakers, our fabulous staff, and our sponsors. We appreciate each and every one of you who braved the heat wave to join us over the past three days. We made some great memories with you, and we hope we'll see you back here on the last full weekend of July, 2023. In the meantime, support your local breweries and cideries. Cheers!

Our Story

Welcome to the Oregon Brewers Festival, which annually takes place in July at Tom McCall Waterfront Park in Portland, Oregon.

One of the nation’s longest-running craft beer festivals, the Oregon Brewers Festival is considered a craft beer destination, and more than 50,000 fans annually make the pilgrimage to Beervana to drink up what the festival has to offer.

On a sun soaked July afternoon, there’s no better place to sip 80+ independent craft beers and ciders with friends along the banks of the Willamette River, with the Portland skyline as a backdrop to the west and Mt. Hood towering in the east.
