Portland Indie Con

Portland Indie Con Portland Indie Con is a locally-produced celebration of self-published/small press comics and games.

General announcement: Given the ongoing pandemic, this year's Portland Indie Con has been delayed and will resume in June 2022 at the earliest. We considered a virtual event but have opted to simply postpone the convention another year in hopes of returning to a wholly in-person format.

In the interim, we hope our sponsors, fans and supportive creators alike stay safe and healthy. We encourage you to visit your local comic shop and look forward to seeing you next year.

First, I apologize for the lack of information about the prospects for Portland Indie Con this year. We've been planning behind the scenes in hopes of coming up with a workable solution for a late-June/early-July event.

Unfortunately, as with many other conventions, the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has rendered those plans moot. So it's with a heavy heart that we announce that this year's planned event has been cancelled and, due to the uncertainty around the virus and its impacts, won't be rescheduled this year. Instead, we're focused on planning for re-launching the convention in 2021. We're exploring venue and format options and hope to make an announcement by August 1 re: our 2021 plans.

In the interim, I hope that our sponsors, fans and supportive creators alike stay safe and healthy. We look forward to seeing you in the summer of 2021.

Portland Indie Con received some great post-event media coverage.

Here's KGW's summary of the con (paired, interestingly enough, with the naked bike ride): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-alx8qZBA3U.

And here's Super Geeky Playdate's podcast covering the first day of the con: https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/super-geeky-play-date/e/62323837?fbclid=IwAR0s7al8RI60efmRgUTVmJRV-HcC6Z6WT9dd2q_VFCKnUe6RJpAGV0LKqWI.

The first day of Portland Indie Con went without a hitch. About 500 fans of indie comics and games turned out to meet the creators of their favorite self-published or small press comics and to discover new favorites.

Today's the second and final day of the show. Stop by to pick up Craig Thompson's debut serial, Ginseng Roots, or any of the other hundreds of indie standouts. There's a comic book here for anyone who loves a good story, whether your tastes run to autobiography/memoir, thrillers, science fiction, fantasy, history or non-fiction.

You can also hobnob with creators first-hand, participate in informal (but informative) creator to creator interviews and learn various aspects of comic creation from some of the best artists in the industry. Plus, a couple of local podcasting crews will be on hand to provide some offbeat entertainment :)

All-day tickets are available at the door for only $7. Doors open at 11am and programming runs through 6pm.

The con is nearly here... And the audience keeps growing...

A brief recap of recent publicity efforts:

- Our Facebook ads have reached nearly 12K potential patrons and generated over 500 clicks on the website

- Last week's feature in The Portland Mercury yielded considerable positive buzz

- KPTV's Good Morning Oregon program will air a three minute segment tomorrow featuring guest of honor, Farel Dalrymple

- The Oregonian/Oregon Live will list the con in tomorrow's guide to "things to do this weekend"

- KGW will be at the show on both days to report on the con

- Two pre-show readings/signings will take place tomorrow night: Leila del Duca and her sister will be debuting new work at Books with Pictures and Conor Stechschulte will be reading from his latest graphic mystery at Floating World Comics.

The momentum for the show continues to build. Let's keep it going! Be sure to promote the show to your friends and fans via Facebook and other social media platforms.

Portland Indie Con Tie-in Event #1: del Duca Sisters Reading at Books with Pictures

Just like any good comic book crossover, Portland Indie Con is cross-promoting a couple of creator readings the night before the show.

First up: Books with Pictures presents a joint reading by the del Duca sisters!

Leila del Duca is a comic book artist and writer living in Portland, Oregon. She draws SLEEPLESS, SHUTTER and wrote AFAR at Image Comics. She is now working on an autobiographical comic about growing up in rural Montana, being polyamorous, and following her passion of art. She'll be presenting pictures and reading snippets from this currently un-named autobio comic.

Rosa del Duca is a San Francisco Bay Area writer and musician. Her debut memoir Breaking Cadence: One Woman's War Against the War chronicles her journey from eager Montana National Guard recruit to conscientious objector during the Iraq War. It's being hailed as a "page-turner," "gripping," "beautifully-written" and "vital." The book is published by Portland State University's very own Ooligan Press.

Join us for a night of reading, music, snacks and conversation. Friday, June 28th, 6 p.m.
