This five-day event always begins on the Wednesday following Thanksgiving. Hours run 11am-9:30pm Wednesday through Saturday and 11am to 5pm Sunday. Despite being held outdoors during one of the coldest months of the year, more than 14,000 festival attendees stay warm and dry over the five-day festival under clear-topped tents that cover the venue. In addition to beer and cider tasting, the festival also features meet the brewer events, a handcrafted soda garden, food vendors, cheese parings, a coat/bag check, a raffle, and an iClick photo booth from The Oregon Lottery. The festival offers a varied collection of offerings, from Belgians to barley wines, porters to winter warmers, and sour ales to stouts. What makes this festival standout from other similar events is the selection: the festival works with every brewery involved to make sure they send a beer or cider that has either been made or blended specifically for their fans at this event, or is a rare or vintage product that isn't commonly tapped in the state. Holiday Ale Festival fans, for those who have seen that a "winter brew fest" is taking place at the square, please know that is NOT the Holiday Ale Festival. Our festival has always been a labor of love and we’ve been working hard to bring it back, but much has changed since the last fest was held in 2019. We considered a scaled-down version at Pioneer Courthouse Square, but if people are hesitant to visit downtown and park or walk after dark to attend the event, that makes it tough to invest the time and funds and hope it turns out for the best. We are determined to hold the fest next year in some way, shape or form. In the meantime, please continue to support your local breweries and cideries, they need you now as much as ever, if not more. Holiday Ale fans, we are working on the fest and are hopeful that we can hold the event this year and what that will look like. It would be great to see all of you with a beer in your hand under the tents, we will post details when they are available. In the mean time, for the local fans, we are holding a small event next weekend, the Sip of Spring on June 17th from noon - 6pm. Come by John's Marketplace Powell and try one of the 18 refreshing beer or some cider, grab a bite at one of the onsite food carts and maybe bump into some friends of the fest you do not know yet. Beer fans.......it is with a heavy sigh that we come to you with the announcement that we have decided to postpone the 2022 Holiday Ale Festival for a lot of "current '' reasons that just made it too much extra to have on our plate with the normal over the top planning it takes to make this wonderful event happen.
We have reserved the dates for next year, December 1st - 3rd, 2023 and hope another year will have some of these issues further behind us. We look forward to seeing you all gathered under the tree in heated tents, beers in hand celebrating the season!
