Pt 1. This time of year we start getting pretty much the same questions about (Last Thursday on Alberta Street in Portland) so we thought we’d do some outreach. All info is posted on our website - lastthursdayalberta.org (link in bio).
These questions are usually:
Is there a Last Thursday this month? or When is Last Thursday? What time? where? - Street closure Last Thursday is every last Thursday of the month June, July, August 6-9 pm. Alberta St NE 15th to 30th. This helps the event in crowd control, traffic safety, bus rerouting logistic needs, and balances the crowds with small business and neighborhood livability needs, and public safety. It also balances costs: it’s $36-40k a year to put it on. On occasion the city has had to cancel a month due to extreme weather, in that case they’ve added Sept to make up for it.
Indoor / private property owner/ gallery openings / arts & culture events happen pretty much 12 months a year. There’s also lots of stuff that happens on Last Thursday on side streets and below NE 14th but the streets aren’t closed due to traffic & public transit needs.
How do I vend / perform and what are the rules? All info posted on our website lastthursdayalberta.org
How do I host an event? Work directly with a small Alberta business, area nonprofit, private property owner to discuss and organize. We’ll help promote it.
What about parking? We encourage folks to take public transit, get a ride and get dropped off and picked up, bike or walk in. Street parking is available nearby, just be be a good neighbor, don’t block driveways or park illegally. If someone is blocking your driveway call Portland traffic enforcement and they’ll be there quickly (really!)
Who is Last Thursday? We are neighborhood volunteers who work with an area 501c3 and we coordinate with City of Portland.
Lots of other info on our website! Link in bio. Or drop us a message on social media or by email [email protected]
