We welcome all films that feature fungi in some way.

2021 FFF Spotlight: The Boat

David Robinson and Bryan Michael Mills’ () stop motion film The Boat is a moving, meandering voyage of a mushroom vessel navigating a tumultuous sea of fungi, whilst searching for her lost sister ship. Straight forward in concept, yet beautifully and mesmerizingly executed, this piece was one of the many highlights of the 2021 Fungi Film Fest.

Alas, like all the films of past FFFs, this film won’t be back this year as we must make space for the next batch of great work. In its place, though, we hope to see your creative film! With no fee to enter and no limits on length or style, all are encouraged to submit a film this year! We’re accepting submissions until August 31 and can’t wait to see what you make!

2020 FFF Spotlight: Cycle by Santiago Salas

This short piece was not only the director's first film but it was also created while he was in high school! It tells the tale of a man lost in the woods who, while starving, runs across some suspicious looking mushrooms. He knows there is risk of poison but his hunger gets the best of him, and he goes on a peculiar trip.

Alas, like all the films of past FFFs, this piece won’t be back this year as we must make space for the next batch of great work. In its place, though, we hope to see your creative film!

A beautifully shot, edited, and acted narrative, this film tells the mythical tale of a small girl's discovery of her family's secret connection to the realm of the little mushroom people.

2022 FFF Spotlight: Shroommates by Rosie Windsor ()

This tiny snippet gives a hint at the glory that is this wonderfully crafted and knee-slapping short animation. Just what happens when a couple of stump-dwelling friends spend the night on a trip off some magical humans? Well, it gets.. wild.. and weird!

2021 FFF Spotlight: Mushroom Biomusic by The Octopus Project ()

Using biodata gleaned from a crop of vibrant yellow oyster mushrooms, specular synth sounds and sparkling sights are generated, creating an memserizing display of human-fungal dynamism.

While this experiental film won't be back this year as we make space for a new round of FFF films, we welcome you to try out your own approach to showcasing the infinite allure of fungi through film!

2023 FFF Spotlight: Language Unknown by Janelle VanderKelen (.vanderkelen)

In this hypnotic, comedic, and experienmental short from the US, we watch the communication systems of plants and mushrooms meander through our field of view in a lo-fi, Lynchian crawl that only leaves you wanting more.

Original twists on mushroom representations like this piece are the cornerstone of the FFF – we love our wild ones, it's true. But we also welcome more trad flicks at the Fest! We love it all, realy.

2020 FFF Spotlight: The Dreaman “I” by Juris Pikelis

In this short experimental animation from Latvia, a dreamer has mystical experience which reveals the truth of his own being: at the core he is no other than the universal Self, the "I", the infinite fractal, the beautiful unknowable mystery.

It's a vibe for sure.

2021 FFF Spotlight: The Mushroom Speaks by Marion Neumann ()

One of the few feature length films of past FFFs, this semi-unconventional documentary spans both sides of the Atlantic to showcase how fungi impact our lives and paradigms. With immersive shots, heartfelt interviews, and a richly textured soundscape accompaniment, this film provides a welcomed alternative approach to fungi-centered documentary work in both tone and style.

2023 FFF Spotlight: Transformation by Aleksi Puustinen, Aleksi Vesaluoma ()

Through contemplative shots, bursts of compelling timelapse seqences, and narration-less storytelling, this short film from Finland gives a glimpse into the relationship between trees and fungi, emphasizing their symbiosis, and proposes a way how to utilize this symbiotic relationship in a respectful and resourceful manner in the field of design.
