The Freeport Music summer concert series regretfully will not take place in 2017. This is due primarily to a loss of sponsorship dollars for last year’s series, and it became evident that the funding necessary to present the three free monthly shows at the Bandshell in Port Washington Veteran's Memorial Park was not going to be there for 2017 either.

After 12 years of bringing high-quality “National Acts” to Port Washington for these Free Admission evenings, it is with a heavy heart that this decision had to be made for 2017. Not only has the loss of funding caused concerns, but also after 12 years, attendance at the concerts has not really met expectations for a free music series of this quality.

As lifetime music lovers, efforts will be made to look at possibilities for bringing the Freeport Music summer concert series back in the future. It will however, depend heavily on sponsorship support, which is the only way a free concert series like Freeport Music can continue and thrive. We hope to see the Port Washington community's support for the future of Freeport Music both financially and in spirit return! We would absolutely love to once again plan and present the Freeport Music concerts, which are a great cultural asset to the community.

A big thank you goes out to all of the supporters of Freeport Music over these past 12 years, including the City of Port Washington Park and Recreation Department who have been full supporters of this grass roots effort! There has been enough negative discourse in Port Washington as of late, so let's join together as friends and neighbors to revive this positive summer tradition and enjoy our great community and its spirit together, by supporting the future return of Freeport Music! The successful return of the Freeport Music summer concert series depends on all of us!

Freeport Music this Friday -- Bad Bad Hats! Bad Bad Hats is an indie rock band from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Kerry Alexander (vocals, guitar, wisdom), Chris Hoge (drums, courage), and Noah Boswell (bass, power) met while attending Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minn. Kerry and Chris began writing songs together in 2010, recording a collection of demos that would later become their first EP. The addition of their friend Noah in 2012 solidified the line-up. The indie rock trio's songwriting quickly caught the ear of Minneapolis label Afternoon Records, whose alumni includes Yellow Ostrich, Now Now, Haley Bonar, and One for the Team, among others. Afternoon Records signed the trio and released their It Hurts EP in early 2013. Two years later, the band released their bold debut LP, Psychic Reader, in July 2015.

As primary songwriter, Kerry's perspective is the guiding force behind Bad Bad Hats. In her early teens, Kerry's family moved away from her childhood home in Birmingham, Alabama. Inspired by popular female songwriters of the 90s, notably Alanis Morissette, Kim Deal, and Letters to Cleo's Kay Hanley, Kerry developed a unique songwriting voice of her own. She embraces classic melodies and simple arrangements, and does not shy away from emotive lyrics. It's Kerry's party and she'll cry if she wants to.

Since the release of It Hurts, the three friends have performed around the Midwest, working on new material that expands upon the homespun sound of their previous work. Psychic Reader is the result of their sonic growth. Bolstered by the experimental touches of the album's producer, Brett Bullion, Psychic Reader draws from the influences of all three members, exploring a number of musical styles over the course of 33 minutes. Kerry's strong vocals and lyrical sensibilities tie the songs together as a cohesive unit, making for an album that is both surprising and universal. Bad Bad Hats are fresh off an early 2016 tour supporting Third Eye Blind.
