Cascade Classic Rally & Tour - CCR&T, 43 Bentley Place, Port Townsend, WA (2026)

The 2026 Cascade Classic Rally & Tour will be held from Friday, September 11th to Sunday the 13th. We will be based in Port Angeles and enjoy the many wonderful B roads of the north Olympic Peninsula. There will be two options for lodging, located next to each other. I’ve done this to provide for pricing options with hotel costs continuing to rise. The Super 8 by Windham shows rates for our date at $125.00 per night and includes a continental breakfast. It is clean and comfortable but not fancy. The Olympic Lodge next door shows rates of $250 per night and includes a more substantial breakfast. It looks very nice and stylish. The good news is that I have not yet negotiated a special rate for our event and can usually get a 15-20% discount. First, I need to get an idea of how many would choose which lodging option. Please let me know.

More good news, our restaurant for Saturday night is right in between the two hotels and a short walk. More on that later. I will be sending out the 2026 registration form in May. I hope you can join our 29th anniversary CCR&T!

One more award to share… Gary Reid and Ed Millman now have the questionable honor to be the first team to hit a deer in the 28 runnings of the CCR&T! Gary lost the cover and glass on one of his vintage rally lights. You can also see some deer fur left as a souvenir on the driver’s side headlight, which still works. While this encounter hurt the deer more than the well-known and well-loved 1965 MGB, it serves as a reminder we are on shared, public roads and have to stay focused. Ed and Gary did not take a time declaration with the comment “it didn’t slow us down much”. It did bring them another trophy, the ‘Hard Luck Award’.

Classic Division
1st - Amelia Breithaupt and Toni Slavich, 1986 Alfa Romeo GTV6, 2 error points, 16 zeroed checkpoints and 109 seconds out from perfect time.

2nd - Paul Eklund and Yulia Smolyansky, 1974 Alfa Romeo GTV, 2 error points, 15 zeroed checkpoints and 114 seconds out from perfect time.

3rd - Gary Reid and Ed Millman, 1965 MGB, 14 error points, 14 zeroed checkpoints and 368 seconds out from perfect time.

Modern Division
1st - Steve Crawford and Wendy Armstrong, 2013 Shelby Mustand GT500, 9 error points, 15 zeroed checkpoints, 318 seconds out from perfect time.

2nd - Sophia Breitspieler and Bentley Breithaupt, 2012 Audi TT, 11 error points, 15 zeroed checkpoints and 354 seconds out from perfect time.

3rd - Kathy Sacry and Robert Paxman, 2004 Nissan Sentra SpecV, 29 error points, 8 zeroed checkpoints and 792 seconds out from perfect time.

Thank you to the teams and volunteers who made our 28th running of the Cascade Classic Rally & Tour a success this weekend! I’ll be sharing the happy trophy winners and gracious non-trophy winners as well as plenty of rally and tour photos soon. However I can’t resist sharing one series of images.

Here is car #2 as it rounds the corner and sees a checkpoint waiting up the road. They head for the checkpoint only to realize at the last second they are on an ‘onto’ instruction and just passed the named road. The brakes smoke and the nose dives followed by a quick reverse to make the turn before I can show the off course board. I was able to capture these five quick images before car #2 stayed on course and on time for the next checkpoint.

The Brady Loop Road ‘onto’ is always good for a test of driving skills.

Every rally/tour organizer hopes that the last days before the event do not bring the news of teams that need to cancel. However people get sick, cars break down and work interferes. We have now lost four teams, two in classic rally and two in tour. Everything is printed at this point and assigned team numbers will not change. I wish we could offer full refunds but meals have been ordered/purchased and all the planning/printing/awards expenses have been spent. The CCR&T is at break-even point when we reach 15 teams and we have now dropped from 18 to 14 teams. On another note, a press release has been sent to local media and we may have representatives and locals at the orientation to view our cars. The revised list is as follows:

We don’t just gather each year for a rally/tour. The CCR&T has become a family reunion that happens to revolve around sporting motorcars and driving the best roads of the Pacific Northwest. I’ve gathered a few of our family photos from over the years to remind us of the many friends who have been part of our annual reunion, some of whom we have now lost. It is with a heavy heart that I must add Alan Chockie to the list of very special friends who will no longer be with us. Alan’s unexpected passing earlier this year was a shock for me. He and I had become great friends over the years. We will take time to celebrate Alan at our evening awards presentation Saturday, September 6th. I am pleased that Toni Slavich will be joining us as Amelia Breithaupt’s navigator this year.
