Fun fact #3: Mosquito Fleet boats were also known as "pointer-enders" because most of them had narrow hulls and long tapered bows. This pointy shape, along with flat decks and undersides, enabled the boats to maneuver in and out of tight inlets and alongside any dock. The boats ranged in length from 19 feet to over 250 feet, with most of them in the 90 foot range. But size didn't matter! If a boat could perform a job needed to serve the local communities, it was considered a member of the informal Fleet.

Fun fact #2: The area known as South Colby was named after the Colby, a member of the Mosquito Fleet that regularly stopped there. The small community depended on the Colby for transportation by water since roads were almost non-existent. It was a small (really small!) steamboat built in Seattle in 1902.

Fun fact: the Mosquito Fleet was a loose collection of private boats of all sizes that helped the mail, supplies, and people get from one place to another all over Puget Sound, from the 1860s to the early 1930s. It wasn't an organized fleet at all! It was named the Mosquito Fleet because the boats "swarmed all around the waters" of Puget Sound. A lot of those boats worked locally. Stay tuned for more fun facts!

Yes, the next Vendor Highlight! All Bout the Colors is another vendor who’s new to the Fair this year. Leah creates truly lovely paintings in both acrylic and watercolor, and shows her crafting side with hand-crafted wind-chimes and sun catchers. Seriously, can’t you see the shell wind-chime on your deck or patio?
