THROUGH THE LENS: AMERICANAFEST 2026 – “Music Is My Religion. I Live There”
“Mule Kick Records & California’s Twang City Presents’ Western Edge - The 80’s: In the spirit of The Palomino Club (the legendary country music venue in North Hollywood, California, that operated (1949-1995) as a vital West Coast cultural hub, Saturday was drenched in 1980s SoCal roots music, cowpunk, and insurgent country.
It was also a celebration of the new documentary of the club, The Palomino, with director Adrienne Isom, writer KP Hawthorn (both of whom also performed), and producer Lisa Kaas Boyle in attendance, it was a non-stop love fest. Legends Jason Ringenberg (of Jason & The Scorchers), Chuck Mead, James Intveld, and John Surge & The Haymakers converged with new talents Alice Wallace, Ruby James, Jade Jackson, and more to perform songs made famous, and performed at the Palomino, by Lucinda Williams, The Blasters, Linda Ronstadt, X, Dwight Yoakam, Lone Justice, Rosie Flores, among others.
While every song was a highlight, the most touching moment was Wallace’s gut wrenching cover of Ronstadt’s “Long Long Time.” It also serves as a metaphor for the gathering: I’m gonna remember that day for a long, long time.”
