"Hey Neighbor,

I’m ending this weekend with so much gratitude, for another great Pirate Takeover, and even more so for this community.

Thank you to the volunteers who made this event a success, who believe in what we are building at CCU, and who put in the work to turn ideas into actions and actions into a movement. I’m grateful to everyone who came out to spend the day with us, to our community partners, our performers and vendors, our pirates and mermaids, and of course to our generous sponsors who literally invest in us and this idea.

My heart is full of love for this place and its people. Truly, we are the luckiest to call this tiny river town home and one another neighbors. Thank you for being part of it all, and for believing alongside us.

Thank you so much Sam!

For years, Sam Davis has helped with kids’ games at the Pirate Takeover. This year, she took on the entire kids’ section, and what a difference it made.

The kids loved the new format, the planning committee breathed easier, and Sam got to shine doing something she loves and does so well.

When the right person is in the right space, everyone benefits. Thanks, Sam!

Thank you to the Town of Port Deposit for everything you do for the Port Deposit Pirate Takeover!

This is Councilwoman Randa Thiele, who has spent the last six straight days volunteering at Community Connecting Us. She helped prepare for the Port Deposit Pirate Takeover, worked during the festival, and stayed after to clean up. Today we finished moving the pirate supplies back to storage for next year. We did it in record time and thought it deserved a hug and a picture.

And it wasn’t just Randa. The Pirate Takeover could not have happened without the commitment of the Town of Port Deposit. From our elected officials to the Town Administrator, office staff, and public works crew, so many put in long hours before, during, and after the event to keep things running smoothly.

We are grateful for you, Port Deposit Town Hall.

Day one is officially in the books, and the pirates are winding down for the night. But the adventure isn’t over yet . . . tomorrow is the final day of the takeover!

⚓ Sunday runs 10 AM to 4 PM, and it’s your last chance to enjoy the pirates, mermaids, vendors, games, acts, and more until next year.

Best of all? The event is FREE thanks to the generous support of our sponsors. We are so grateful for each of them, and for all of you who joined us today.

When you come to the Port Deposit Pirate Takeover this weekend, don’t forget to stop by our community partner, The Carriage House of Port Deposit.

They’ll have kids’ games and fun photo opportunities waiting for the whole family to enjoy. And we are especially grateful to them for this year’s exciting new addition to the festival… Palm Trees!

The Carriage House continues to go above and beyond to support our town and our event. Be sure to visit them, join in the fun, and thank them for bringing a little more magic to Port Deposit.

Some neighbors don’t just show up, they roll up their sleeves, give their hearts, and keep the pirate spirit alive. This year, that’s exactly what Brian and Samantha Davis have done for the Port Deposit Pirate Takeover.

Samantha has long been a dedicated volunteer with Community Connecting Us, lending a hand whenever and wherever there’s a need. And this year, she and Brian have stepped up even further: not only have they financially sponsored the festival, they are also organizing and running the kids’ pirate area and activities.

We truly are lucky to have neighbors like Brian and Samantha — generous, creative, and always ready to pitch in for the good of the whole crew. Thank you!
