The reviews are in for Brévo Theatre’s School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls Play at Ali Cultural Arts Center. Described as a “hoot” with a powerful edge, this lively production balances sharp comedy with an honest look at friendship, identity and ambition. Catch it through September 27.

Playing at The Hive Black Box Theater in Pompano Beach, it is the second impressive offering this year from this young African American company, which triumphed this past summer with “The Color Purple.”

Step inside Aburi Girls’ School in 1986 Ghana, where a group of high school students compete for the title of Miss Ghana and face questions of beauty, status, friendship, and self-worth.
