Public Statement from The Riverfront Park Associates
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the cancellation of the 46th Annual Albert Gallatin Regatta. This decision was not made lightly but after deep and painful deliberation among our non-profit organization and its dedicated members.
The Riverfront Park Associates was founded in 2022 by a group of selfless volunteers with a vision to unite our community and surrounding areas through our beloved community park in Point Marion, PA. We have worked tirelessly to revive and continue cherished traditions, most notably the Albert Gallatin Regatta, a two-day event established in 1979 and held every Memorial Day weekend. With its return, we proudly brought back the Regatta Queen Pageant and the most anticipated event of the weekend, the Powerboat Races. However, this event requires immense effort, countless volunteer hours, and the unwavering support of the community.
With the cancellation of the Regatta, we also regret to announce that the Regatta Queen Pageant will not take place this year. However, we are pleased to confirm that the cherished tradition of the Memorial Day Parade will continue as planned, allowing our community to still gather in remembrance and honor of those who have served.
Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we have faced ongoing defamation, baseless allegations, and a decline in community support. It is truly disheartening to see the dedication of our volunteers—who have given their time, resources, and passion—met with unwarranted negativity and hostility. As Vice President of this organization, I cannot stand by and watch these individuals be disrespected and disparaged by those who have never stepped forward to offer help, seek the facts, or support our mission.
We also want to address the financial aspects of this decision with full transparency. Any funds raised for the Regatta will be returned to vendors and donors if they so wish. Any remaining funds left in our non-profit accounts will remain in our accounts, which will lay dormant until a decision has been made on where the remaining funds will be applied. All of these transactions will be made publicly available on our website for anyone to review
This organization was built on the foundation of community spirit and a shared love for Point Marion. We remain committed to our purpose, and while this year’s Regatta will not take place, we sincerely hope for a future where we can once again come together in unity, respect, and shared appreciation for the traditions that define us.
We want to express our deepest gratitude to those who have stood by us, volunteered alongside us, and truly understand the heart and soul that go into this event. Your support means more than words can express.
