Plattsburgh Blues and Jazz is commemorating Juneteenth in the North Country by bringing in one of the brightest young talents in today’s blues scene, King Solomon Hicks. Hailing from Harlem, Hicks delivers a powerful mix of blues, soul, funk, and rock and roll, blending legacy sounds with original music and electrifying guitar work. A favorite on the festival circuit, he has shared the stage with legends including Buddy Guy, Jeff Beck, George Thorogood, and Joe Bonamassa while building a sound and reputation all his own.
This special Juneteenth celebration is part of a community-wide weekend organized by the Colors of Freedom Committee, the North Star Underground Railroad Museum, John Brown Lives!, the Clinton County Historical Association, SUNY Plattsburgh, Paul Smith’s College, and the Plattsburgh Public Library. Together, these organizations are celebrating freedom, culture, community, and the deep roots of American music through a memorable night of live blues.
Plattsburgh Blues and Jazz will once again transform Retro Live into a true live music club atmosphere, complete with a dance floor, high-top seating, and an intimate concert setting built for a great night of music and connection.

Drumroll! PB&J: Plattsburgh Blues and Jazz has proudly presented a Juneteenth concert for the past two years, celebrating both the music and the history connected to this important holiday. Here in Northern New York, Juneteenth carries special meaning through our ties to the Underground Railroad, Timbuctoo, and John Brown, and, of course, the deep roots of blues music itself.

We’ve brought unforgettable artists to the stage, including Dylan Triplett and Dom Flemons last year, and The Blackburn Brothers the year before.
