The Jefferson Highway Association and Plattsburg, Missouri is mourning the loss of Keith Clements. Clements was one of Plattsburg’s most valued citizens and historians. During his 56 years of working at Sur-Gro Co-op, he visited with countless people about local history and one of his favorite subjects was the Jefferson Highway.

His enthusiasm for the Jefferson Highway was the catalyst for the Plattsburg Missouri’s current interest and projects centered around the Jefferson Highway. People like Keith are important to keeping the JH heritage alive and for progress in its growth as a heritage byway. Our thought and prayers go out to Keith’s family, his friends and the City of Plattsburg Missouri.

Our "Festival of Trees" is coming back to this year's Christmas event! If you have a group or organization that would like to sponsor one, contact one of the ladies listed on the flyer below. This is a separate event in addition to the pole tree sponsorship. These trees will be located inside and are full sized trees. We have so many fun things planned this year. Attention all Plattsburg residents - We need your help!

Over the past few months, the Plattsburg Park Board has been working on a solution to the Horse Fork Bridge at Perkins Park. We can apply for a trail grant through the Missouri State Parks Recreations Trails Program. Obtaining this 80-20 matching grant funding will make the bridge functional in addition to improving the trails at Perkins Park. The first step in the grant process is hosting a public informational meeting. The Park Board is hosting that meeting this Thursday, December 15 at the Plattsburg Middle School Library from 5-7:00 p.m. If the grant is to be approved, the Park Board needs input from its citizens. The larger the crowd, the better chance of getting the grant approved. Once approved, the finished bridge will provide safe, convenient passage from Perkins Park to Grafton Park. Grafton Park and Perkins Park are used for soccer matches by the Plattsburg Soccer Club.

Again, the meeting is a public meeting where you will get information about the plans for the bridge enhancement as well as the trails at Perkins Park. Your ideas will be welcomed as we are striving to make additional, significant improvements to Perkins Park. For additional information contact Steve Tinnen @ 816-592-0176.

Tom Mallen, one of the engineers who worked on the James Webb Space Telescope, will be making a presentation about his work on the space telescope on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. The presentation will be held at the Plattsburg High School Performing Arts Center and is sponsored by The Clinton County Historical Society. The presentation is open to the public.
Mallen is a 1982 graduate of Plattsburg High School and is the son of Della and the late Richard Mallen. He will be traveling from his home in Redondo Beach, California to Plattsburg to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday.
The James Webb Space Telescope, named after a former NASA administrator who oversaw the formative years of the Apollo program, is 25 years and $10 billion in the making. JWST became operational in June – three times the size its predecessor, Hubble. It began transmitting remarkable photos back to Earth, giving humans the ability to see back to the very first stars and galaxies from the dawn of time.
