Placitas Studio Tour Thanks to the overwhelming success of the Placitas Studio Tour, the tour is now a three-day event! Brochures will be available at all studio sites.

Mark your calendars Mother's Day Weekend, May 7, 8, 9th, 2027
Studios will be open 10am-5pm all three days of the tour. Placitas Studio Tour Artists will be opening their studios to the public for the Placitas Studio Tour, Mother's Day weekend, May 13-14, 2023. Enjoy the scenic views of the Sandias as you visit the different areas of Placitas to see the diverse studios of artists. The workshops are as fascinating and varied as the creative artists who work in them. Ceramics, woodworking, glass art, jewelry, mosaics, sculpture, metalwork, paintings, mixed media and more will be part of this behind the scenes peek at the artistic life of Placitas. For an early look at who is on the tour this year go to the website http://www.placitasstudiotour.com, where you can view the different artwork as well as the map to all the studios. Directions from I-25: take exit #242 and head east to Placitas on Highway 165. Follow the colorful yellow signs directing you to the studios that will be open.

Today, Katie Thomas and Nancy Holley from the Placitas Studio Tour Board of Directors presented a $1,000 check to Chantel Hernandez, the art teacher at Placitas Elementary. Chantel teaches art to all 105 students at the school. This donation was made possible thanks to the many tour artists who generously contributed a piece of their beautiful art to the raffle at last February’s Placitas Studio Tour's, Taste of The Tour, as well as everyone who placed bids on the donated artworks. The Placitas Studio Tour Preview Exhibit, organized in partnership with the Placitas Community Library, has been a wonderful success, thanks to the library’s support and the incredibly talented artists who participate in the tour each year.

Special thanks go to Sue Meilahn, the tour’s exhibit coordinator, and Colleen Z. Gregoire, the library liaison, for working together to organize this amazing exhibit. Thank you to Lynne Hynes, Library Director and Furman Kelley, Library Administrator, for their continued support.

Giving back to our community is important to the Placitas Studio Tour for without the support of our amazing community the tour would not be the enormous success that it is. The tour proudly donates $1,000.00 to the Placitas Community Library for annually hosting the Placitas Studio Tour's Preview Exhibit.

Bravo, Katherine! Please join me in congratulating Katherine Irish! In her own words:

I was awarded the distinction of Eminent Pastelist from the International Association of Pastel Societies. This award is truly one of the highlights of my life. I want to thank Richard McKinley and Shirley Anderson, the President and Vice President of IAPS for their tireless efforts at maintaining the highest quality and the integrity of this organization over the last several years. It was such thrill to share the last week with hundreds of extremely talented pastel artists from all over the world. It was a week of shared ideas and enthusiasm. Thank you to all the volunteers who have made these events and art careers possible due to our tireless efforts to promote the arts. Without you none of this would have happened. Now after such glorious week - back to my easel!!
