The Perfect Place for your Special Event! The architecture of the building, as its name implies, is much like the buildings of Shakespeare's day.

Located in the city of Placerville, California, this unique building is the perfect place in El Dorado County for your special event! Nestled among many 19th century homes, this lovely building creates a unique setting for wedding receptions, anniversary parties, seminars, company-sponsored meetings, craft bazaars and many other activities. Placerville Shakespeare Club Kitchen Renovation 2026

A piece of history receives much-needed upgrade

The Placerville Shakespeare Club recently completed renovations to the kitchen at its clubhouse on Bedford Street in Placerville. The improvements mark the first substantial update to the kitchen in decades.

The clubhouse dates to an earlier chapter in Placerville history. In the early 1950s, construction of Highway 50 required the building to be moved from its original location near the El Dorado County Courthouse in downtown Placerville.

Club members petitioned at the state Capitol to preserve the building, and the state highway department ultimately moved the entire structure to its current Bedford Street location.
The recent kitchen renovation continues the club’s efforts to maintain the historical clubhouse while making it more functional for community use.

The club credited Lis Powell, chair, and the members of the Kitchen Renovation Committee for their work on the project. Special recognition also goes to contractor Chris Flock and his assistant, Jesse Allen; Aaron Daly of True Light Electric for the electrical work; and Jenny Levitsky of Ultimate Designs for project coordination and creative design.

The Shakespeare Club said it was especially pleased to have the renovation completed by skilled craftspeople from the local community.

The Placerville Shakespeare Clubhouse is available for rental. For information, call (530) 626-7626.
