Brookline’s Festival of Trees is a free annual four-day event to create a sense of community with an atmosphere for families to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas – love. Tree of Life Open Bible Church in Brookline, the event sponsor, will transform its sanctuary into a forest of trees – Christmas trees, all decorated with various themes and colors and sponsored by local businesses, organizat
ions, families, and individuals. On December 1st thru 4th friends and neighbors will walk through the “forest” and see all the trees, lights, and decorations.
“This is our 6th year hosting the event. The first year started as mostly a friendly competition between congregation members to see who could create the most unique tree. The event has grown over the years to reach out to include community involvement. Last year we had about 70 displays in our sanctuary and about 500 people in attendance.” says Rev. Lance Rhoades, Pastor of Tree of Life. “On Saturday, December 3rd our event will coincide with Brookline Lights Up and we’ll have FREE photos with Santa as well as some live holiday music and the official lighting of the community tree on the boulevard by the cannon.”
“It’s an opportunity for families to slow down, spend some quality time together doing something that won’t cost a lot of money, and celebrate the season, as a family, during a busy time of the year,” adds Pastor Lance. The 6th annual event will be held at Tree of Life Open Bible Church, 1036 Brookline Blvd, in the Brookline area of Pittsburgh. Admission is free for those who want to stop by and experience the tree displays. The doors open on Thursday, December 1st from 5:00-8:00 pm, Friday, the 2nd from 5:00-8:00 pm, Saturday, the 3rd from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm and ends Sunday, the 4th from 1:00-6:00 pm. Also on that Sunday, December 4th, the regular morning and evening worship services will be held in the midst of the trees. Friends and family of participants are invited to come and vote for their favorite trees. Awards for the Best Traditional Tree, the Most Creative Tree, the Overall Favorite, and People’s Choice, all based on popular vote, will be awarded the following Sunday morning, December 11th, during the regular church service.
