On September 11, 2001, John was off duty when the terrorist attacks unfolded. Without hesitation, he responded to the World Trade Center, joining those who rushed toward danger to help others. He was 38 years old when he made the ultimate sacrifice.

On September 11, 2001, Juliana boarded United Airlines Flight 175 with her mother, Ruth, for a special family trip to Disneyland. Their journey was tragically cut short when the hijacked aircraft struck the South Tower of the World Trade Center. Juliana was only four years old, and her mother was 45. Their lives were taken in a tragedy that devastated families and changed the world forever.
