Emanuel "Manny" Chacon is a dancer and choreographer from Wilmington, DE. His love for movement began at a young age with the Afro-Brazilian Martial Art of Capoeira. Upon furthering his education at the University of Delaware, he pledged Lambda Sigma Upsilon Latino Fraternity, Inc. With his fraternity brothers, his performance experience grew competing regionally and nationally while being mentored by industry choreographer J-Romeo. In 2016 Manny began touring with DC based black owned dance company "Step Afrika!", the first professional dance company dedicated to the art form of stepping traveling across 45 states and over 15 countries.

He is the founder of "La Cultura Dance Collective" ("The Culture" in Spanish), A company dedicated to representing “Reggaetón” culture through performances, workshops, arts education, and choreography. His styles include but are not limited to Capoeira, Hip Hop, House, Afro, Dancehall, Stepping/Body Percussion, Gumboot, and Zulu. Everything he does through the arts is centered around culture, community, encouragement, and healthy living/fitness. His extensive experience has allowed Manny to perform with recording artists, on major network television, music videos, the US Embassy, the White House, conduct domestic & international workshops, perform across notable theaters, and more.

Now, his experience has led him to Villanova University where he begins a new chapter as Assistant Director of Dance for Student Performing Arts!

Philly Tap Fest 2025 Teacher Highlights 

Rochelle Marie Haynes

Rochelle Haynes is a native of Dallas, Texas, Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts the University of the Arts, where she received her BFA in modern dance.

Rochelle joined Tap Team Two and Company as a principal dancer in 1997 as performer and Dance Captain of the company. She has been teaching tap internationally for over 30 years. Her choreography has received high accolades, special awards, choreography awards and Title winnings in the competition industry.

 Miss Haynes has studied with Masters of tap for over 20 years, and has taken the stage with tap greats Dormeshia, Nicole Hockenberry, Germaine Ingram and Dorothy Wasserman of the movie TAP. In 2011 she had the wonderful opportunity to perform original choreography of Bill BoJangles Robinson and Charles “Honi” Coles of the Copasetics in New York at the Symphony Space Theater.

PHILLY TAP FEST 2025 TEACHER HIGHLIGHTS

Karen Cleighton

Karen Cleighton earned her BFA in Dance Education from The University of the Arts where she was mentored by LaVaughn Robinson. Teaching credits include jazz and tap at UArts, Temple University, Chartertech HS for The Performing Arts, and  Rowan University.

Karen choreographed many professional shows which landed her numerous awards including but not limited best choreography Broadwayworld, and Barrymore Nominated for Best Choreography "Thoroughly Modern Millie"

Karen performed when LaVaughn Robinson received lifetime achievement, Flobert Award with Germaine Ingram, Rochelle Haynes, Corrine Karon, Lance Lyles.

She produced "Tapping in The Streets" in Hammonton for the NJ Fringe Festival.

Karen has dedicated her life to teaching and sharing her love for the arts to as many people as she can. She is currently on the board of directors of Dance NJ and The Somers Point Arts Commission.

In her spare time she works at various entertainment companies providing dancers, choreographing, producing shows and DJing.

Philly Tap Fest 2025 Teacher Highlights Tim Yue

Timothy is a dancer and choreographer for Tap Team Two and Company. He created the show, Slumber Party, an entirely improvised show whose concert film was an official selection of the Amsterdam Lift-Off Film Festival 2020. Choreography Highlights include pieces such as “Tim’s Take on Take Five,” and Mozart's Rondo Alla Turca. He recreated a famous Bill Robinson solo from The Littlest Rebel; and LaVaughn Robinson's For Drummers Only. As a member of Tap Team Two, he has performed “Hoofing in America,” in seven states. Tim has taught tap dance at Temple University. He researched early American tap dancers on a Public Development Dance Advance grant. He hosted the tap site, Timothy Tap Dancing 2006 -2008. Tim designed and built electronic tap shoes, which generate a wide range of drum sounds. He was a dancer for Shining Time Station Live. Tim studied Tap with LaVaughn Robinson. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from the University of Pennsylvania. While a student at the University of Pennsylvania, he studied Tabla (Indian classical drumming) with K. Prashant.

Please Welcome Fast Beginner Teacher Justin Ballasy!

Justin Ballasy began his tap journey at age 4, performing alongside tap legend Harold “Stumpy” Cromer by age 8 at NYC’s Swing 46, and developing a deep-rooted love for musicality and the art of improvisation.

A graduate of Muhlenberg College with a B.A. in Dance Education, Performance, and Choreography, Justin also trained in theater and acting, and has performed in numerous regional productions.

His accolades include being a National YoungArts Award Winner for Dance in 2014 and Finalist in 2013, an Apollo Theater Star of Tomorrow finalist, Philadelphia Tap Challenge Idol title holder, and a Las Vegas finalist on So You Think You Can Dance Season 12, Team Street. His other television credits include Nickelodeon’s ME-TV, MTV MADE, and America’s Got Talent. He’s also been featured in performances with Max Weinberg at Glenn Burtnick’s Annual Xmas Extravaganza in Asbury Park, NJ, and voted Most Talented Person in Bucks County, PA.

Now with over 25 years of experience, Justin is a passionate educator and performer dedicated to honoring the legacy of the artists who shaped the art form, while pushing its creative boundaries. His teaching emphasizes the historical and cultural significance of the art form and the power of improvisation as a tool for artistic and personal growth.

Justin currently serves as the Artistic Director of TTap, an apprentice ensemble he co-founded with Jill Fitzgerald. He is also a member of Tap Team Two (Philadelphia), and a long-time collaborator with Tap Ties (Lehigh Valley). Justin also teaches Somatic Movement in wellness centers and inpatient facilities, helping individuals recovering from addiction and traumatic brain injuries to reconnect with their bodies through mindful movement—an approach that reflects his belief in the mind-body connection as a key to healing.

ARTHUR LEO TAYLOR is a native of Washington, DC, and a graduate of the Duke Ellington School of the Arts and Philadelphia’s University of the Arts, (BFA Theater Arts) where he studied from legendary tap master LaVaughn Robinson.

As a founding member of Philadelphia’s TAP TEAM TWO & Company, he and partner Robert F. Burden Jr. were honored as Artists of the Year for YOUNG AUDIENCES INC. Arthur and Robert were also members of the Fly Squad who toured internationally with the smash hit RIVERDANCE

Taylor is an award-winning producer, director, and choreographer. Some of Mr. Taylor’s achievements include “Slide,” a music video featuring the directorial premier of Grammy award winner Jill Scott, who also appeared in the music video as seen on MTV, VH1, and BET.

Say hello to Adv Jazz Tap Teacher MR.TAPTASTIC!

“Mr Taptastic” Brian Davis is an Audelco Award winning Performer, a finalist on HBO Max’s Second Chance Stage (Now Streaming), and an Apollo Talent Search Winner who began studying tap dance with Dr. Darrlyn Smith of TTAAPP Central (Now NW Tap Connection in Seattle, WA.) After earning his BFA in Dance at University of the Arts Philadelphia, he went on to star in “Rhythm is Our Business” directed and choreographed by Dormeshia and Derrick Grant at New York’s 14th Street Theater and Broadway's international tour of  "After Midnight" onboard the Norwegian Escape. He was part of the opening act for Alicia Keys at the world-famous Apollo Theater and is a recurring guest artist on Virgin Voyages Cruise Lines. For more info on Brian, visit  www.TAPTASTIC.net.
