It’s time to talk about the first mutual aid collective that funds will go towards this year!
Homies Helping Homies (HHH) is a collective dedicated to improving the quality of life in the Philadelphia Point Breeze neighborhood and beyond. Their mission is to “empower communities to assist one another by battling food apartheid and gentrification, and providing everyday essentials to help neighbors escape survival mode.” They host weekly distributions for free groceries, fresh produce, and clothing on the first three Sundays of every month.
This work is personally near and dear to my (Scout) heart as someone who did this every Sunday in high school but watched the city I lived in shut it down saying it was “dangerous”. Food, housing, having the things you need to live a healthy and happy life should not be a privilege. Especially in a country of such excess.
We’re thankful for the work HHH does for Philadelphia.
Donate to them directly, they take donations of supplies as well. We’re also trying to raise as much money as possible to give them and another mutual aid group (stay tuned for the next one) after bands are paid for coming out to play.
So donate to the GFM or directly to our Venmo, come on out and see the incredible lineup, and keep your eyes on the people doing the work in your city (or join em)!
