✨️❤️ How did the 80s influence your love for community, fashion, and music? ❤️✨️

The 80s were unforgettable. From the Plateau to block parties, we were outside, rocking to some of Philly’s finest Hip Hop artists like Schoolly D, MC Breeze, Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, Steady B, Baby DST, Malika Love & DJ Bones, Rockwell, and many more.

And Lady B provided the platform with her radio show, 'Street Beat' which introduced so many of us to the sound of Hip Hop in Philly. I can remember having my cassette tape ready to record the songs so I could replay them over and over until I memorized every lyric.

Name belts, door knocker earrings, pay phones, bag phones and beepers, Dancing on Air, Izod Lacoste, Cazals, Jordache Jeans, Gucci sneakers, Joe Palmieri’s (an Uptown Thing), roller skating, Barbers Hall, the Wynne Ballroom, Zounds, Stingers, the After Midnight - we lived it, loved it, and made memories.

That same good energy is what Jazz on the Ave is all about: music, community, nostalgia, and a feeling you can take home with you. 🎶

What’s your favorite 80s memory? Drop it in the comments.

✨️Drop your favorite childhood summer memory in the comments. Let’s reminisce about the good old days, when life felt simple and the block felt like family. ✨️💖

As spring comes to an end and summer gets ready to bloom, Philly starts to feel like a rhythm of nostalgia, music, and childhood memories.

Remember waking up on a Saturday morning to breakfast cooking and the familiar sound of your mother’s favorite music playing on the radio? After breakfast, the chores were waiting before you could get dressed in your play clothes and head outside for a full day of Double Dutch, riding your bike, hopscotch, dodgeball, basketball, jacks, wall ball, tag “you’re it!” and all the games that wore you out in the best way.

And even after all that playing, you still had just enough energy to wait for the Morrone’s Water Ice truck to come through the block. Tutti Frutti, cherry, pineapple, or maybe you liked yours mixed. And of course, nothing went better with a water ice on a hot summer night than a nice soft pretzel.

Great people, good music, good feelings, and beautiful memories, that’s what Jazz on the Ave is all about.
