For 2022, the Philadelphia Honey Festival will be live and in-person! Here's our schedule for the 3 days!
***NOTE- This year the festival runs the THURSDAY, Saturday and Sunday after Labor Day Weekend! The Philadelphia Beekeepers Guild is proud to present this festival for the 13th year along with our three partners. It may sound “too sweet," but we really do have something for everyone! Honey sa
mpling, music, children’s activities, informative talks on bees, adult beverages, demonstrations on all aspects of beekeeping, great food, vendor marketplaces, and the list goes on. DAY ONE: GLEN FOERD**THURSDAY 9/8/2022
Glen Foerd (5001 Grant Avenue, 19114 in the Northeast) will be kicking off Philadelphia's 13th Annual Honey Festival on September 8th with honey themed cocktails, beer from Mutual Respect Co-op, and food available for purchase from the Clean Plate Club and the Häagen-Dazs ice cream food trucks.
5:00pm-9:00pm - Ongoing Activities:
• Observation Hive: Get a good look at bees safely behind glass for close observation; your questions cheerfully answered by knowledgeable beekeepers
• Honey Tasting & sales: Sample a range of honey from Philadelphia and surrounding areas to choose your favorite - be a honey connoisseur!
• The historic Glen Foerd Mansion will be open for self-guided tours.
• Activities for children will include exhibits where kids can try on a bee suit, spin a honey extractor, and try out the tools of the beekeeper. There will be educational tables with a "bee hotel" and bee crayon molds, not to mention yard games on the grounds.
• Vendors will include Honey Rose Botanicals and Duende Textiles
• Jessie Shiffler of Wild Ones of Southeastern Pennsylvania will answer questions about making your yard a paradise for bees and pollinators. Scheduled Activities:
• 5:30: Plant Walk: Tour the Glen Foerd grounds and learn about plants important to pollinators and healthful for humans with herbalist Alyssa Schimmel - discover amazing connections with nature right here at Glen Foerd.
• 6:30pm – BEE BEARD! The ever-popular event features Don Shump, Philadelphia Bee Company, who will create a beard of bees on his face!
• 7:30pm – Honey Extraction – so you have a hive full of honey…now what?! See how honey goes from hive to table! DAY TWO: WYCK HISTORIC HOUSE****SATURDAY 9/10/2022
Next, Wyck Historic House, Garden, and Farm (6026 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia 19144) offers a full day of events on Saturday, September 10th from 10 am – 4 pm. Special features include the mead tent for demonstrations and sampling, ongoing children’s activities, and a vendor marketplace.
10 am- 4 pm - Ongoing Activities:
• Tour Wyck House – See this beautiful house and learn about the Quaker family who called Wyck home for nine generations.
• Observation Hive: Take a really close look at the bees; beekeepers will be on hand to cheerfully answer all your questions about bees.
• Honey Tasting & sales: Sample a range of honey from Philadelphia and surrounding areas to choose your favorite - be a honey connoisseur!
• Wild Ones of Southeastern PA will be on hand at Wyck to talk about native plants and making a paradise for pollinators!

• 10:30 am: Open Hive Talk: Take a peek into a real live beehive; a real live beekeeper will tell you everything you ever wanted to know about honey bees (Apiary behind greenhouse)
• 11:00am to 1:00pm: Cider Pressing: try your hand at Wyck's cider press and taste the freshly squeezed results (Marketplace)
• 11:00am and 1:pm: "Honey Health: Medicinal Benefits of the Hive Workshop" - Join Best of Philly's 2022 Community Wellness leader Christa Barfield to discover ways to wellness with bees and their products. (Education Center)
• 12:00 noon Honey Extraction: How Do You Get the Honey Away From the Bees? Watch as honey is taken from the honeycomb and take a taste! (Education Center)
• 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm: The Beer and Mead Garden is open!. (Rose Garden; age 21 & older)
• 12:00 pm: Open Hive Talk - What’s Going on in There? Join us at the beehives by the greenhouses to watch and learn from the beekeeper (Apiary behind greenhouse)
• 12:00 and 2:00 pm: Honey Extraction - See how the honey goes from the honeycomb to the jar through the “magic” of centrifugal force (Education Center)
• 2:30 pm: Bee Beard! Join Don Shump as he regales us with bee tales while covered with bees! (Rose Garden)
• 3:30 pm Open Hive Talk – Get up close and personal, if you dare! Watch and ask questions, as a beekeeper “works the bees” (Apiary behind greenhouse)
DAY THREE: BARTRAM'S GARDEN**SUNDAY 9/11/2022
Bartram’s Garden (54th Street & Lindbergh Blvd., Philadelphia 19143) hosts the final day of the festival on Sunday, September 11th from 10 am – 3 pm. Special features include stories at the children's area from the Free Library, Children’s games, science, and costume making all day, boating from 10am to noon, a marketplace with local crafts.
10am – 3pm Ongoing Activities

• Honey Tasting & sales: Taste and choose your favorite honey from the local Philly beekeepers - be a honey connoisseur!

• Children can learn how to make honey remedies with Merissa MacDonald
• Vendors’ Marketplace: local vendors and organizations selling hand-made products
• Bartram’s House Tours and Gift shop – Welcome Center
• Famous Philly food trucks on site, including TwoStreet Sammies and Lil Pop Shop.
• Ongoing 10:00am – 12:00pm: Free Boating on the Delaware
• Ongoing 12:00pm – 3:00pm: House and Garden Tours Available Tickets can be purchased in the Welcome Center
• Ongoing 12:00-2:00: Storytime with children's books authors and librarian from the free library
• Children's Activites ongoing 12:00-2:00: making costumes and crafts

• 10:30am Open Hive Talk – Take a peek inside a REAL LIVE hive with an experienced beekeeper!
• 12:00pm Open Hive Talk – What’s going on in there? Watch and learn as a beekeeper opens a living bee hive right before your eyes.
• 12:00-2:00pm: Honey Extraction Demo – All hands on deck, interactive honey harvest • 2:00pm: Open Hive Talk – Come closer if you dare! Ask the beekeeper anything you want to know about honey bees.
• 2:30pm: Honey Extraction Demonstration - learn how honey makes it from the hive and the honeycomb into a jar
• 3:00pm: Bee Beard! Watch as Don Shump, Philadelphia Bee Company, creates a beard of bees on his face, all the while imparting fascinating bee facts and telling bee tales
• 3:30pm: Open Hive Talk – Your last chance to see inside a real bee hive at the 2022 Honey Festival!
