Honoring the 2026 Outstanding Artist and 2026 Community Partner at the Peru Visual Arts Festival.

We are proud to present J.O. Buffington with the 2026 Outstanding Artist Award. For decades J.O. has used his artistic talent to capture the beauty of Miami County, and he an integral part of the Art Festival, with his live demo at the Youth Plein Air Painting Competition. Thank you J.O. for sharing your talents with the youth and the community at large!

We are equally proud to present Beverly Parker, Director of the Miami County Museum, with the 2026 Community Partner Award. Beverly has gone above and beyond to welcome the Festival into the Museum to host the Youth Plein Air Competition, and this year she also hosted the People's Choice Competition. She puts in extra work organizing, promoting, and facilitating these festival events. We were happy to see many members of the Board attend the Award Ceremony to see Bev receive her award. Thank you Beverly for your willingness to help facilitate these events and enhance the community with art!

Thank you to Gold Medal Awards for providing these beautiful, one-of-a-kind awards and printing the plaques to present to our honorees.

Reminiscing the awe-inspiring performance by Lisa van der Ploeg, at the 2026 Peru Visual Arts Festival. Thank you Lisa, for inspiring the American Spirit at the festival!

Mezzo-soprano Lisa van der Ploeg, presented a special interpretation of The Star-Spangled Banner in honor of America’s 250th tribute celebration. "Through music, reflection, and some of the anthem’s rarely heard words, this performance invites us to pause and reconnect with the enduring spirit, resilience, and shared heartbeat of ‘We the People.'’’

For many in the audience, this was the first time we had heard the words to additional verses of the Star Spangled Banner, and the performance was coupled with a heartbeat thumping the rhythm.

Thank you to Miami County Museum, and especially to Director Beverly Parker, for hosting the Youth Plein Air competition, as well as the People's Choice Competition, for the 2026 Peru Visual Arts Festival. You can go check out all the artwork on display through this Saturday.

Thank you to the amazing Peru Circus City Festival performers and trainers who added their creative spark to the Peru Visual Arts Festival this weekend. They have graciously performed the last two years, and we appreciate them working with us this year on short notice!

So many people to thank at this year's festival, let's start with Tom Bennett, our photographer, and Karl Rosenow, our DJ and sound tech! Both of these guys worked all day, from set up to tear down.

Karl had to battle holding his tent down in the wind and getting a good sound with a constant barrage to the mics, but he pulled it off!

Tom was gracious enough to show up early and still help with tear down. He is likely editing photos right now! Thank you Tom and Karl!

Special thanks and congratulations to the 2025 Peru Visual Arts Festival Youth Plein Air Competition winners and the Miami County Museum for hosting the class and their artwork! Artwork is on display inside the Musuem, until May 31. Stop in and see what Miami County's young artists have painted!

This year's winners are:
Elementary: Legend Foht and Eden Hammon
Middle School: Faith McKamey and Marshall Dodd
High School: Emily Lewis and Ella Hoeksema
Adult: Steve McKamey

Youth and their guardians were invited to paint after attending a live demonstration by watercolor artist, J.o. Buffington, inside the Museum. Then all young artists spread throughout downtown Peru to capture the Festival action in their paintings.

A special thank you to Interim Director, Beverly Parker, for agreeing to host the class and the paintings inside the museum. We appreciate her willingness to support the young artists of Miami County!
