HOW DID HAPPY CANYON GET ITS NAME?!

There’s more to the name than you might think.

Did you know “Happy Canyon” is an actual place in Umatilla County?

Located along the Umatilla River near Nolin, the area became a popular gathering place in the late 1860s, known for dances, socials, parties, community celebrations, and even horse racing.

As the story goes, following one particularly exciting race, a young man shouted:

“Hurray for Happy Canyon!” And the name stuck!

Years later, when it came time to name Pendleton’s new night show, Happy Canyon seemed like the perfect fit.

110 years later, the name is still going strong!

ON WITH THE SHOW!
