On Thursday, December 25, 2025, four of our ACCE students had the opportunity to serve our community by participating in the Christmas Day Dinner. They helped prepare and serve meals, decorated the Fire Department, took phone orders, wrote notes for families, and spent time visiting with guests.

Approximately 350 warm meals were served and delivered to Giles County residents. Our students were grateful to share the joy and spirit of the season with others. A special thank you to the Moser Family and to everyone who helped make this meaningful event possible!

The following ACCE students participated in this event: Emma Snyder, Abby Perkins, PJ Pitzer, and Austin Atwood.

On Monday, November 3, four ACCE students volunteered to assist with serving lunch at the First United Methodist Church in Pearisburg as a gesture of appreciation for the church’s continued service to our community. Students, church members, and county employees all enjoyed a meal together in fellowship.
During the meal, Alan and Debbie Leet, two of the key organizers behind the Senior Meal Distribution, delivered a heartfelt and inspiring speech accompanied by a slide presentation highlighting the program’s growth and development. After their presentation and thanks one of our own ACCE Students, Abby McCoy, spoke about her experiences with the Senior Food Distribution projects. After the anecdotal stories, Chris McKlarney, Giles County’s Administrator, offered a thoughtful and appreciative speech recognizing the church’s contributions and the importance of their ongoing efforts. After the event, the church also graciously provided parting gifts for attendees.

Overall, the event was a tremendous success and deeply rewarding. We are grateful for our continued partnership with the First United Methodist Church on the Senior Meal Distribution program and the many other projects they generously invite us to support.

On Friday, October 31, five ACCE students volunteered at Eastern Elementary Middle School’s annual Halloween Carnival to help the 7th-grade students run the event for their underclassmen. The ACCE volunteers played a key role in supporting the event students by handing out candy, restocking candy tables, and assisting children with playing various carnival games. Their involvement helped ensure the event ran smoothly and that all participants had a fun and festive experience. The collaboration between the ACCE students and the middle/ elementary school students fostered a sense of community, teamwork, and Halloween spirit throughout the celebration. In addition, ACCE students who were previously educated at Eastern had the special opportunity to reconnect with their former teachers and update them about their current academic goals and aspirations. The event was a huge success and left lasting impressions on the ACCE students. Thank you to everyone who put this event together!

On Friday, October 17, the Senior Center hosted a “Senior Prom” for the older adults in our community at the Pearisburg Fire Hall. Students volunteered as chaperones and helped serve food and refreshments at the punch tables. The event was especially meaningful, as it brought together the older and younger generations of Giles County. Students enjoyed volunteering, and even found themselves on the dance floor with some of the seniors! It was a memorable evening and a truly rewarding experience.

Thank you to everyone who worked hard to make this event a success!

On Monday, October 13, three of our ACCE students took part in a meaningful outreach effort, delivering homemade lunches to members of our local community. Beginning at the First United Methodist Church in Pearisburg, they collected the thoughtfully prepared meals and traveled throughout Giles County. At every stop, they offered more than just food; they shared kindness and connection with those who needed it most. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make this impactful project a success!

On Friday, September 26, three ACCE students sorted new and gently used clothes by size, while also ensuring everything was clean and ready to wear. After their careful work, the students delivered the clothes to foster care, helping provide comfort and essential items to children in need. Students and other community members donated the clothes and other comfort items. We are greatly appreciative of everyone who volunteered their time and donated items to our drive. We could not have done this project without everyone’s help!

The following ACCE students participated in this event: PJ Pitzer, Austin Atwood, and Alexia Allen.
