The day kicks off at 10:00 a.m. with Cowboy Church featuring Jake Ho**er, followed by one of the crowd's favorite events—the Dummy Roping Competition—at 11:00 a.m. The official Introduction of the Ropers begins at noon, with the action-packed Ben Johnson Memorial Steer Roping getting underway at 1:00 p.m.

For generations, John D. Israel's name was synonymous with excellence. Revered throughout the ranching, rodeo, and cowboy communities, Israel earned national recognition for his masterfully crafted bits and spurs. His work was sought after by some of the most accomplished horsemen and women in the industry, yet those who knew him best remember not only his remarkable talent, but also his humility, generosity, and unwavering dedication to the cowboy way of life.
The opening of the John D. Israel Wing represents a heartfelt tribute to a man whose craftsmanship and character left a lasting mark on countless lives. More than two years after his passing, his influence continues to be felt throughout Osage County and far beyond. Friends, family, fellow craftsmen, ranchers, rodeo competitors, and admirers of Western heritage will have the opportunity to gather and celebrate the legacy of a man who was deeply respected and genuinely loved.
The unveiling coincides with the opening day of Ben Johnson Days, Pawhuska's annual celebration of Western heritage and cowboy culture. The four-day event features rodeo competitions, community gatherings, and the John Israel Cowboy Trade Show, a popular event named in his honor that welcomes more than 90 vendors from across the region.
Museum officials hope the new wing will serve as both a tribute and a place of reflection, preserving the memory of a craftsman whose work embodied authenticity, excellence, and the enduring spirit of the American cowboy.
The public is invited to attend the grand opening ceremony on Thursday, June 18, at 10:00 a.m. at the Ben Johnson Cowboy Museum in Pawhuska.
