Hello Friends!

Did you remember Don and I owned an aircraft ferry business before we opened Wines by Jennifer® in 2003?

Yep, we were living another dream back then - getting paid to fly airplanes around the country for dealers and brokers.

Now as interesting as that may sound, sometimes things could get a little dicey.

Like the night we flew into a wall of snow near Lexington, Kentucky in January of 2002.

Thankfully, you know that flight had a happy ending since I’m writing to you today.

The weather in Lexington did ground us for a couple of days though.

But that didn’t bother us much.

It just gave us a chance to turn lemons into lemonade by exploring the greater Lexington area.

Which was when I fell in love with Kentucky horse country.

It was just such an amazing landscape, especially with the virgin snow covering acres upon acres of horse farms stretching as far as your eyes could see.

Not to mention the glorious thoroughbreds frolicking on them.

It was something I’ll never forget.

So why am I telling you all this?

Because the first Saturday in May and the Kentucky Derby are right around the corner.

It’s that special day when the best of the best of these magnificent creatures charge around the track at Lexington’s hallowed Churchill Downs in the “Greatest Two Minutes in Sports,” climaxing as always with the world-famous call:

“And DOWN the stretch they come!”

(I actually got goosebumps just typing that.)

So naturally, there will be a Kentucky Derby party at Wines by Jennifer®.

But this year, we’re not just celebrating the Kentucky Derby on race day.

We’re celebrating it all week!

Granted, our Derby celebration will be a little different than most.

No mint juleps.

No fancy hats.

And no (official😉) wagering.

But there will be wines.

And there will be whiskies.

And there will be winnings.

The wines are special selections from Washington’s Horse Heaven Hills.

But of course.

The whiskies are special selections from Kentucky.

But of course.

And the winnings?

Well, those special selections shape up like this:

Hey friends-

I’m posting today on Day 1 of Year 21 of Wines by Jennifer® to let you know that after 20 years, they finally wore me down.

Now "they” are pretty much everyone not named Jennifer.

And “what” they wore me down on is opening Wines by Jennifer® on Sundays.

So this note is to let you know that starting this June, WBJ® will be open on Sundays.

But not every Sunday.

Nope, I stuck to my guns on that.

It will be conditional.

First, on the weather.

And second, on the WBJ® Team.

So if the weather’s good and the Team’s good, we’ll be open.

If not, we won’t.

We’re calling it “WBJ® Pop-Up Sundays.”

When it does happen, it’ll be noon - 5PM in the beautiful WBJ® Wine Garden with rotating Sunday-only menus for your personal pleasure and enjoyment.

Because after all, Sunday technically is still the weekend.

Greetings friends!

Hope you’re having a great Saturday - I certainly am.

Mostly because exactly 20 years ago today, Wines by Jennifer® officially opened for business.

That’s so hard to believe.

But it’s also so true.

Honestly, most people didn’t give Wines by Jennifer (no registered trademark back then!) a fighting chance when this wild ride started exactly two decades ago.

Trust me, I heard all the naysayers:

“What does she know about wine?"

“She’ll never make it.”

“That thing hasn’t got a chance.”

Which is precisely when I knew I was on to something.

Because I’ve always believed if people aren’t doubting you, then your dreams aren’t big enough.

So fast forward 20 years, and Wines by Jennifer® is still going strong helping people enjoy an authentic global wine country experience just like it was way back in 2003.

Obviously, Don and I thought long and hard about how best to celebrate such a momentous occasion.

Should it be a giant party?

Should it be 20% discounts?

Should we roll back to 2003 pricing?

We considered them all.

But ultimately, an understated approach made more sense.

No pomp, no circumstance, no fanfare.

Nope, we finally decided to just send you this note of heartfelt appreciation and gratitude for your loyalty and support during this amazing run.

You are appreciated.

Then, now, always.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

And now let's raise a glass together to the next 20 years.

Red Kingdom Vodka Tonic anyone?

Is it just me, or is the day between Red Friday and the AFC Championship Game officially the longest day of the year?

I mean, we have been fortunate enough to deal with it here five years in a row now, but somehow it just never seems to get any easier.

Anyway, would you be interested to hear about something I came up with to help kill the time between the two?

If so, then this message is for you.

Because I was lucky enough to score several bottles of the limited-edition Kansas City Distilling Co. “Red Kingdom” Vodka this week just in time for the big game.

Now, in case you haven’t seen it (highly likely considering its limited production), I posted a photo of it below.

And of course I'm gonna share it with you to help make this “Longest Day” go by a little faster.

So just for today, there’s a new “Red Kingdom Vodka Tonic” on the WBJ® cocktail menu to help you get in the Game Day “spirit.”

Not only that, but if you hurry there might even be a bottle or two still around to take with you to fuel your tailgate and ward off the cold temps forecast for tomorrow.
