At Missio Nexus’ Mission Leadership Conference, the closing keynote speaker, Dr. Ted Esler, spoke about “Why Discipleship Should Be Hard?” He mentioned that programs can scale, content can spread, and events can grow. But deep discipleship takes time, relationship, patience, and presence.

A question we are taking home:
Are we simply reaching more people, or are we helping people become mature disciples of Jesus? Some of the most important ministry work is slow, deep, and relational.

From September 23 to 25, we had the opportunity to attended a Missio Nexus' mission leadership conference in Florida with 1000+ senior missions leaders and 300+ agencies and churches represented. We were in the room where missions get stronger together. The conversations and connections reshaped how we think about the work. Our hearts are grateful for every conversation and connection! We left the conference encouraged by passion, challenged by the ideas brought up in the plenary sessions and workshop, and energized by the next steps we will take.

We are reminded that God's grace and power will sustain us when we step out in faith. In the recent symposium, "Letting Go or Going Along? A Parent's Heart to Youth Missions," we heard honest testimonies of how parents and teens relied on God's strength when going on short term missions trip. We praise God for that they were able to share and encourage us with their experiences with us.

We’re heading to the Missio Nexus Mission Leaders Conference in 2026 from September 23-25 in Orlando, Florida! 🌍✨

What is Missio Nexus Leaders Conference? It is North America's premier gathering of Great Commission leaders—a collaborative network where churches, mission agencies, and ministries unite to share strategies for cross-cultural evangelism, discipleship, and church planting.

Last year, our team went to conference and stood by the Wall of the Unreached at past gatherings, which was a powerful reminder to pray for the unreached. We are excited to gather with other global leaders to learn, innovate, and pray together.

Listen to parents and teens as they explore the realities of preparing youth for STM, and how parents can encourage their children to love God and others in practical ways. We invited 2 parents and their teenagers to share their experiences of short-term mission trips at our previous symposium. When the moderator asked what advice would you give another parent who is considering to send their kids on a short-term mission trip, Lily, one of the parents, said, "Accompany your kids on the journey- don't just send them off." 💡✨

3 core reminders Lily shared for parents:

1) Security Starts at Home | Your presence and companionship give kids their foundation—don't rely on a trip to build what starts at home.

2) Purpose Over Performance | Shift the focus from "How will this change my kid?" to "Who are they serving?"

3) Anchor Their Identity | Kids aren't going as a self-help project; they are going as children of God carrying out a higher calling.

When teens know who they are and why they go, challenges don't break them—they deepen their faith. 🙌
