Anything is possible at the Blue Sage Center. Housed in two beautiful historic buildings on the main street of rural Paonia, Colorado, the Blue Sage is a hub where teachers, students, artists and entertainers join to share their passions and talents. A community-driven arts and education center, the Blue Sage provides a venue where anyone can plan an event large or small, teach a class, put on a play, arrange a concert, or schedule a talk on myriad subjects ranging from recent travel to astrophysics. A key direction for the Blue Sage is the provisions of classes designed to help the community’s youth to gain job skills and experience through participation in varied work-study programs at the center and its art gallery. We’re also committed to developing meaningful programming for families, adults and young children. At the the heart of this multi-faceted center is its volunteers of all ages, from all walks of life and with so many varied interests and the affordability of programs so that all can participate.

Ildi's monthly Sound Baths continue - this month it's Saturday, October 10th! Join Ildi from 3-4pm in Curtis Hall for a soothing and blissful experience. Don't forget to arrive early to set up your space, and to bring whatever you need to lie comfortably. Painters rejoice! Rob Jenkins, whose wonderful work is on display in our gallery this month, is holding a workshop on October 26, 27, and 28. Participants will have three days of instruction from 9:30am - 3:30pm daily (with a break for lunch). The class is capped at 6 participants to ensure the highest quality instruction.

In the workshop, participants will explore personal artistic directions, while sharing common objectives and challenges. This workshop will be a safe space to take risks with your painting and to try new strategies and techniques. You'll learn about basic watercolor practices and a painting's focus. Additionally, Rob will guide you through discovering what to draw and paint and getting over the fear of beginning and putting color to paper.

Join Amy Irvine and Pam Houston for an electric evening of conversation for their just-released books, ALMOST ANIMAL and ANIMALS TAUGHT ME EVERYTHING.

Irvine’s ALMOST ANIMAL is a ferocious, incandescent memoir about motherhood, liberation, and the natural world - following one woman’s journey to reclaim her wildest self. Houston’s ANIMALS TAUGHT ME EVERYTHING shares the life lessons learned from animals, offering a joyful and heartfelt reminder of how our fellow creatures can teach us to live, love, connect, and find joy.

We had a wonderful opening of "Portraits in Watercolor" by Rob Jenkins on Friday, September 25th during Mountain Harvest Festival. These works are expressive, thoughtful reflections of their subjects, rendered masterfully in watercolor. The show will be on view until October 28th, so come take a walk downtown, enjoy this beautiful fall weather, and pop into the Blue Sage Gallery!
