5 Peaks 2023 VS Today…

Pretty crazy the difference! Here are some pics over the years.

2023 we had a delayed start and challenging conditions
2024 we summited 10/9/8/7/6 in chilly bluebird conditions
2025 was pretty warm, only summiting 8/7/6
2026 Breck is 3% open and it’s shorts weather 🥵

Swag just came in for 5 Peaks!

A thin wool version of our current socks.

I debated hard about using the 5 Peak’s logo instead of our sponsor’s logo. As much as I would love to have the year and race logos on included racer swag, the volatility of the weather dependent Skimo races makes me hesitant. Case in point again this year!

Now I can wear a new pair of socks everyday until race season 🤣

I always struggle with the decision to preemptively cancel, but we are supposed to be racing the vertical right now… I have spent all day in running shorts and no shirt here in Summit County and I’ve been comfortable! These temperatures are silly, fingers crossed this changes before 5 Peaks.

From Pow to Puddles. ☀️🛶

The Meadow Mountain Backcountry Ski Race is officially cancelled.

I thought we really thought we had a chance after that recent 5-10” refresh, but that melted and the forecast just took a turn for the tropical. Between the 60-degree week-of-forecast in Minturn and the lack of refreshes (& overnight freezes)… the snowpack is checking out early.

Gutted to call it, but holding out hope that this is just a freak winter and not the new normal. To everyone who got stoked—thank you.

Let’s keep the vibes high and hope the fridge stays cold next season. 🎿💔❄️🙏

Tomorrow is the day!

After Party at Robbie’s again! But wait isn’t that is on Peak 8?!?!?

Yes you will have to skin up a short groomer to get back to Peak 8 for the afterparty. They work with us and Summit Skimo to make the pizza cheaper and are a better venue than what we could find at Peak 9 base area.

Course markings are ready to disperse!

One of the many challenges about setting Skimo courses is waiting until Patrol, or other powers at be, allow us to put course markings out.

- Too early and they are a “safety hazard” to the paying public
- Too early and the public skis over them. Breaking or knocking them down, costs me money and time. (I personally hand make every flag)
- can’t leave flags out too long for the same reasons

These North facing descents are skiing pretty well!

Skin up is mostly groomers, but we did manage to find enough snow for some skin tracks. Had to take out the steep skin track through the trees with a booter…

50 degree temperature difference from last year’s start!

Clean minus a lost ski and then blown skin (by the same person), on-time start caught a couple of our heavy metal era by surprise, super fun first climb with some people breaking 15 minutes up!
