After losing an older and beloved friend, filmmaker Anna Fitch spends a decade obsessively building a detailed, scale version of her friend Yo’s house in her studio. It’s just big enough for Anna to squeeze through the doors and Inside lives a 20-inch puppet of Yo. The film juxtaposes intimate vérité of Yo’s last year with Anna’s creative interpretations of her stories. In this magical place their relationship continues. Yo tells Anna tales spanning eight decades and three continents with uncommon, fearless honesty. Born in Switzerland in 1924, Yo lived life on her own terms, defying expectations around sexuality, mothering, aging, and even death. The film blurs memory, time and invention, revealing creation as an outlet for grief and love.

Winner of the Silver Bear for Outstanding Artistic Contribution at the 2026 Berlinale. Yo screens Saturday, June 20, at 10am. Recorded Q&A with Directors Anna Fitch and Banker White to follow the screening.

Fleeing mistakes in Atlanta, Mauro crashes on his sister’s couch in Boston. He takes to bucket drumming on the streets for a way out, but can’t stop screwing things up and drawing everyone else into his own feral shortcomings.

DOWNBEAT is our Opening Night feature film, and plays on Thursday, June 18 at 7:30pm. Director Danny Madden and cast members Daniel Rashid and Arkira Chantaratananond will be in attendance.

Our 2026 Director’s Spotlight recipient is Erica Tremblay. Erica Tremblay is a Native American filmmaker from the Seneca-Cayuga Nation. Her first feature film, Fancy Dance, starring Academy Award Nominee Lily Gladstone, premiered in competition at Sundance in 2023 and was acquired by Apple Original Films. Tremblay is currently a co-executive producer and director on AMC’s acclaimed series Dark Winds. She has previously written and directed for FX’s Reservation Dogs and directed for Netflix’s Little House on the Prairie. Tremblay lives on Cayuga Lake in upstate New York, where she studies her Indigenous language. 

Festival attendees will have the chance to view Tremblay’s film Fancy Dance followed by a Q&A with the director on June 20th.
