The Tomoka Marathon is quite an epic undertaking to put on. It takes a village to make events like this happen and we couldn't do it without the support of dedicated staff, friends, volunteers and community groups that come out to make this event possible. We would just like to recognize some of those people for all of their help and support throughout not only race day but the months and weeks leading up to the event. This race belongs to the entire team and we hope you will join us in thanking them for all their support.
I'd like to thank Juan and Katrina Guevara of The Running Elements for their assistance for the months leading up to the event with planning and marketing, for generally helping to keep me sane through the process, and for their support at packet pickup and on race day jumping in any and everywhere we needed the help. And Katrina always does an amazing job as our awards MC.
I'd like to thank our race staff Jenny Church, Kaylee Church, Tammie Christensen, Kelsie Church, Alma and Al Ortiz, Lindsey Tobias, Rob Christopher, Frank Lill, Eli Matthews, Danny Ron, and Naymond Fontenot. Without the tireless work this team puts into the event it could never happen. From loading trucks, to sorting gear, from packet pickup, to timing, to solving every problem under the sun that pops up on race day this team handles it all with poise and grace and a positive attitude. I am truly lucky to have such an amazing team to work with.
We would like to thank some of our groups and service organizations that support the event. Not only is Halifax Health our presenting sponsor but their sports medicine team volunteers as our medical support for the event bringing doctors, nurses, medical students and other volunteer staff out to support the race. They do an amazing job of helping to keep our runners safe and healthy and responding to any issues that come up.
Some of our other groups include the WVR - West Volusia Runners, who's members volunteer in every aspect of the race, the West Volusia Pacers providing great on course support for our runners, teams from Seabreeze High School, University High School, Atlantic High School, DeLand High School, the Daytona State Cross Country Team, Daytona State Massage Program, Boy Scouts and Girl Scout troops, and the Community Support Group for the Tomoka Basin state parks. Some of these groups have supported us every year since the beginning. These are the people handing out your water along the course, finish line medals and food, helping with parking and so many more parts of the race. These groups are also beneficiaries from the race and a portion of the race proceeds are donated back to each of them to help support the great work they do.
Thank you all for your support and we look forward to celebrating our 10th anniversary with you next year!
