Did you know that worldwide, the biggest appeal to those who participate in Dragon boating is how easily people of any ability and age can participate?

Dragon boating is considered the “ultimate” team sport for those new to the sport and the avid paddlers. People who never considered themselves athletes love the thrill and the teamwork in the connectivity of the team . Winning a medal is always a plus! You’re giving 110 percent, but mostly it’s about everyone getting together, having fun and working together to support a good cause.

The dragon boat crews vary in makeup, style, intensity and purpose. Representing all ages from teens (12) to senior citizens (oldest last year 87), along with all races
and experience levels. We have teams in many categories Military Men and Women, Cancer Survivor Teams, Youth Teams, Club Teams, Non-Profit Teams, Community Teams and Corporate Teams.

We are proud to announce we have set a date for this year's Dragon Boat Race in Oriental, NC! The race will be held at the scenic River Dunes Marina on Saturday, August 10th and practice for the teams will be held the day before on Friday, August 9th.

We are currently looking for volunteers, food vendors and anyone that would like to participate in the race! YES, that means row the boat! So, pick 21 of your closest friends and family that love to have fun and don't mind getting wet!

Monday Morning about 10:45 we received a call from our
Dragon Boat Provider. A Dragon Boat Trailer carrying our Dragon Boats for our race that was supposed to take place on Aug 12 was rear ended by a Semi that totally destroyed all the boats and the trailer. A meeting late in the day on Monday with our team captains, together with River Dunes Scheduling and our provider worked out a date of Fri, Nov 3 for Practice & Sat. Nov 4 for our race date. River Dunes, our Provider And Team Captains came together that day as one to forge a good way to take something so overwhelming and begin to prepare for our November 3 and 4th race. It will be here before we know it and we are hoping the weather will be a plus for everyone. If you are on a team contact your team captain if you have question and/or if you are a new person wishing to paddle please contact me a 252-675-9424 or email me at [email protected] give me your name and number and I will answer your questions or get you a individual/Team Paddle form emailed to you. We were very happy that no one was injured in the wreck and we still have time to have a wonderful race this year. Paddles Up to Everyone See you Nov 3 & 4th.
