Up, Two, Kick, Step! Thank you for visiting our page. Co-founded in 1988 by the late Ronald J. Sarjeant, the SCSU Alumni Band Association has continued to support and promote a positive working relationship with the University Band program. In the last 35 years, the spirit and leadership of the members of our organization have been well recognized. We have never been content with following along but have taken the initiative in setting the standard for others. Executive Board 2023-2025:

Pssst... a little birdie 🐦 told us that dues are still $101 until midnight, September 21st.

We offer Afterpay as a payment option to pay in installments.
Late Fee ($125) will apply on September 22nd.

REMINDER: On-site payments WILL NOT be available homecoming weekend.

NOTE: If you ARE planning to actively participate in the stands and on the field during Homecoming, please submit your dues by HOMECOMING DEADLINE: OCTOBER 5TH.

New Graduates (December 2025 & May 2026) are comped (Please check your email from August 4th to get your comp code).

💙❤️ Remembering Mr. Alexander “Nick” Nichols, Jr. 💙❤️

The S.C. State Alumni Band Association extends heartfelt condolences on the passing of Mr. Alexander “Nick” Nichols, Jr.—trombone player, lifelong musician, student leader, and devoted supporter of South Carolina State University and the Marching 101 Band.

Mr. Nichols was a student at S.C. State during the tumultuous 1960s and served as a leader in both the band and student government. He was also a proud member of the Xi Psi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

His love for the band continued through his daughter, Candace (F’94), a piccolo player and my Spring 1995 Tau Beta Sigma line sister. 💙🤍💛 Over the years, I was blessed to get to know Mr. Nichols and his wife, who were tremendous supporters of the band program.

Mr. Nichols also helped preserve an important part of our band’s history. As stories about the origins of the Marching 101 Band evolved into folklore, he and several bandmates helped set the record straight. He shared:

“In 1964 we marched with either 88 or 96 and called the band 101 to be one greater than the Marching 100.”

That firsthand account is now part of the rich history of the Marching 101 Band.

We salute Mr. Nichols for his service, dedication, and longtime support of S.C. State. His legacy will forever be a part of the history of our university and our beloved band.

A True Loyal Son. 💙❤️

Prayers of comfort and peace to his family, friends, bandmates, and all who loved him. May his memory continue to inspire and bring comfort.

Rest well, Mr. Nichols. Your legacy lives on. 🎶🎶💙❤️
