Skysurf

Skysurf Skysurf is a page that hopes to capture and recount a chronologically accurate history of Skysurfing as a Sky-Sport and a worldwide phenomenon.

Perched in the clouds, balancing on the wind between the realms of the absurd and the glorious? yes - the Skysurfer is destined for such greatness in the lore of human flight! It takes courage, grace and agility to balance on a skyboard and surf through the sky. Thereby spinning & twisting the body around all axes while strapped to a board. Plus hurtling towards the ground at an average speed of 1

30 miles per hour before opening the parachute! The result: Skysurf, which is one of the most extreme sports disciplines. Skysurfing (unofficially) started in 1984 when Skydivers in California experimented jumping with boogie boards. Thereby they lay flat on the boards while jumped from a plane. Later, Skydivers screw down their shoes to skateboards (without wheels) and tried to fly on it. One common misconception about Skysurf is that it looks like riding a wake-board or snowboard!? But the truth is, it is a whole different sport. Once airborne, the surfers use complex aerodynamics to perform their tricks & moves. Skysurfing is much closer to skydiving than to any kind of surfing or other board sport. It needs a lot of skills to handle the skyboard properly and to fly in the 3rd dimension. The main idea of this page is to spread awareness about this unique Sky-Sport and enthuse all adrenaline junkies around the world to follow the Skysurf flow. You will get to see many amazing videos, breath-taking pictures and different Skysurfer athletes will be presented throughout history. We are constantly looking for more feedback both from other Skysurfers and questions from people who are new to the sport there for feel free to message us and we will do our best to respond as soon as possible. Share this page with your friends and family so that we can together present to the people something more about this magnificent sport.

Keith Schneider finds it both ironic and fitting that, as someone who symbolically “surfs the skies” in his iconic Docs, he has become a vocal opponent of ### development. This strikes him as particularly amusing because of the parallels with a movie character named ### who also sky-surfs. From his vantage point on the front lines of rapid Data Center development in Prince William County, Keith sees the contradiction clearly. While efforts to phase out coal-powered plants are pushed, they seem futile in the face of data center expansion, which demands more electricity than is available. The unchecked growth of data centers, coupled with the equally rapid rise of Ai ###, has created an untenable situation.
Keith also points out a disturbing inconsistency: while actions like date r**e are illegal, when such acts are published online as videos, they seem to fall into a legal gray area. This, he argues, is completely unacceptable. His once lighthearted “antics” have now turned into a serious stance against ###.

Snyder Bests His Own Guinness Record
At Skydive Orange in Virginia on July 4, Keith Snyder (aka Kēbē San) turned 175 rotations under his skyboard, besting his own Guinness World Record for Most Helicopter Spins While Skysurfing that he set last November over the Great Pyramids of Giza in Egypt by 15 rotations. Jumpers Ian Conners, Monica Noncheva and Bobby Page accompanied Snyder on the skydive. The skydive benefitted the Focused Ultrasound Foundation located in Charlottesville, Virginia, which conducts research on non-invasive ultrasound technology and provides treatment to patients.

Snyder sets a Guinness book record in Skysurfing over Egypt 🎖
On November 1 during the Jump Like a Pharaoh event in Cairo, Egypt, Keith Snyder (also known as Kébé San), shattered the Guinness World Record for Most Helicopter Spins while Skysurfing by performing 160 spins in 60 seconds. The quest for the record was a long time in development. In 2002, Snyder happened upon a Guinness Record set in 1999 by Englishman Chris Gage, who made 64 rotations in 20 seconds. In 2003, Snyder performed 74 rotations in 20 seconds, but Guinness did not certify it due to technicalities.
On the day of the attempt, Snyder said he felt “inexplicable emotion” as he moved toward the tailgate of the aircraft accompanied by camera flyers Bruno Brokken and Omar Alhegelan. Snyder said, “As we exited, there was a moment where time stood still followed by Pearl Jam’s ‘Unthought Known’ playing in my earbuds as a new energy entered and I began to spin. Continuing to drive the spin forward had become automatic. I could tell my speed was on target. The first number I saw on my altimeter was 10,000. This was good. I kept driving to 7,000. There was a long deep breath as I kept it rolling until 5,000 and then exited the helicopter spin. With a slight wobble, I corrected my stance then I looked to Bruno and smiled. Seeing the pyramids for the first time as my canopy opened was sheer magnificence.”

Recently, Dani Roman a Wingsuit athlete approached Joan Ventura Sanches Finguer, the legendary Spanish Skysurfer, with the question, if he‘s getting back on the skyboard for a mixed jump. Immediately Juan said yes, before even heading the full idea.
Juan has always fascinated by skysurfing. His background is skateboarding and surfing in the sea, so it’s natural for him to do such things.
Dani‘s idea grew and grew and it became a mixed relative work with belly flyer Pete Allum and freeflyer Raph Coudray. The mix of skydiving disciplines together in the sky gave these jumps a spec

Some of you may have wondered where the name "The_Ultimate_Olli" comes from. Well, over the years Oliver Furrer has built up a wide range of knowledge in different skydiving disciplines at the highest level. In addition, he has developed the skills to jump out of the plane with any kind of sport equipment. Whether with a snowboard, skis, bodyboard or a surfboard on his feet, he has proven in several videos that this is possible! At the skysurfing X-Games 1999 he gave a great competition performance and showed additionally how to fly through the air on a skateboard.
Oliver Furrer can represent the highest stage of development and that's why he got his nickname!

TV coverage of the skysurfing 1998 X-Games competition was tape delayed on ESPN and on ABC Wide World of Sports! 38.5 hours of original coverage was sent to over 132 million North American households via ESPN (74m TV HH) and espn2 (58m TV HH).
The Arizona PULSE team with Skysurfer Oliver Furrer and Knut Krecker .nut420 was very pleased about this, because the video trailer about them was explicitly produced by ESPN. Unfortunately the video was never played live, because the two athletes were not judged correctly in the last round of the competition. So they lost their first place after 4 jumps and were rewarded with the Broze medal at the end.

Mike Frost presented a seminar on the History and Future of Skysurfing at ‘Skydive the British Skydiving Expo’ on the 25th January 2020. A prominent sport in the 90’s with global status, before fading from public conscience during the 2000’s. The presentation has contributions from World Champions, pioneers, prominent teams, tour organisers and sponsors. This community has come together to share and celebrate the history and rise through the X-Games, World Air Games and Pro Tour Events along with commercial endorsements. It will focus on the teamwork of the sky surfer and camera flyer to create global TV events. It remains one of the most challenging and rewarding activities in skydiving with only a small number of sky surfers in the world remain.
